Umm….Ok then.

Lord of Leisure Posted on June 1, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureJune 1, 2007

Hello Campers, just a note to say that Aunty Bett is proceeding along still, though she is a bit downhearted at the moment. Hospital can be a boring place and she is the type of person who likes to be active, which even at her age is great. She may be getting moved to a different weard next week to sort out her breathing once her leg is OK. Will keep you all updated, though you all may even get an update while we are down in London, who knows? We depart tommorow, and I must admit, I can’t wait. Can’t we fast forward a bit to the end of the day? Dammit, I want to go now!! That’s all i can write for now, never mind there will be some rubbish soon I expect, if there wasn’t you would be disapointed.

BTW, check out the Lineup for Glastonbury, they have posted it online now, my thoughts about all that coming soon!!

BYE!

24: In the news…

Lord of Leisure Posted on May 31, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureMay 31, 2007

Hello campers, since the release on Monday, once again I have been quiet, I have been very very busy at work and also on a side project which some of you know about but others do not. I will be coming clean on that now, every tuesday and wednesday evening I travel to Aston Villa Football Club. To learn about Radio. I have been doing a Radio course now for a few weeks and so far so good, except when I was hearing myself last night, I was all over the place and I was awful!! Seriously i hadn’t a clue of what i was doing. But it’s early days, and we’ll see what happens anyway.

Tonight, after seeing Aunty Bett again, I will be rapidly doing ironing ready for the weekend’s fun and frolicks!! Oh yes, 4 days in sunny London, Fantastic! And tommorow I should be seeing off Mr Paul Thompson the legend himself, as it is his last day. But as it stands I am unsure. Just have to see how time plays out.

And sad news everybody, Glyn has had his car broken into in Manchester, which I find really strange as it wasn’t a £110000000 car which would attract people to it in the first place, but these are strange time we live in. All i can say is don’t worry mate something will get sorted out.

Sunday. Why?

Lord of Leisure Posted on May 27, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureMay 27, 2007

It just occured to me on this bank Holiday Sunday, that is Sunday is one of the strangest days of the week. You only really seem to use it for:

1) Doing Housework
2) Visiting Family
3) Messing Around with crap just to fill the time

You might do some shopping, but the hours are limited, and somehow it seems that you can’t do as much. Granted nowadays most places are open just like every other day. But somehow it still feels weird. But anyway, typical British Weather has meant lots of indoor activites. I have recording the podcast and all being well it should be out tommorow. Dave’s Birthday passed yesterday without doing anything as he said He would be out all day and I won’t see him for a little while longer it seems. Shame, but there we are. All I can say mate, is that you had a great birthday! Whatever you did, I hope it was good. Most of yesterday I must confess, I was playing Starcraft, that ye olde RTS from 1998, just getting back in the mood for the sequel.

Shrewsbury was empty yesterday, mainly becuase everyone had travelled down to see Shrewsbury Town play at the new (rip-off) Wembley Stadium, it was the playoff final to be promoted to the football league one. (Which used to be Division 3 if I remember rightly, you see they altered all the leagues and the FA Carling Premiership used to be called Division 1, for our international viewers). Shame they lost 3-1 to Bristol Rovers, but at the very least people got to see what the new £800 million pound stadium was all about. Will ask Ade about it on Monday as he went there, and I dare say he will give us the truth about the place, anyway went out last night in Shrewsbury with Good Ol’ Natalie, and we actually ended up seeing as there was no-one about, Pirates of the Carri-bean (sorry I always think it’s a new type of baked bean when I see the name so I hyphenate it!) 3, and I must confess, I am confused, half of it doesn’t make sense, and half of it is bloody good. Can’t say about what happens as that always is rude, but switch the ol’ brain off and you will love it. Jack was on form, when he was on screen that is. In fact I can’t help but wonder, they should get rid of half the other cast and have just Captain Jack, as Johnny Depp can really carry the film by himself it seems. Keith Richards was great as Jack’s dad by the way. Go and see it, you will like it, but it’s is not as good as the first two.

And Chris, Sorry mate, I know we were going to see it, I do apoligse!

That’s it for now, I read Glyn’s Blog about the Windows Stuff, and well granted My method is not the best by any streach but hey at least it works!! He switched everything off and should be having a quiet weekend. Hope it’s good mate. And on that note, it’s time to wrap this post up. BYE!!

P.S. btw, it appears that someone is noticing this site, as I have started getting SPAM comments, buy Viagra now etc, do they think that they will make money by posting that here, it all has to get past me first!! Doh!

In case you are wondering…

Lord of Leisure Posted on May 23, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureMay 23, 2007

Yes I am still around, but Have been very busy getting material for the podcast together, which is now complete, not going to spoil what’s in it, it’s more serious and ranty than the last one, but I still got some funny bits, and the music this episode will be top notch. Mr. VO Man aka Slaughter has recorded lines for me, and now the process goes for recording it all and putting it together. Will let you all know when It is done.

Although, I have been getting myself worked up over Starcraft 2, which for the geeks out there is great news. Thank you Blizzard for finally delivering the sequel to one of the best RTS games of all time. Just one Question, can I have it now please?!? 🙂

It’s Dave’s Birthday on Saturday (Dave in Sunny Wales, for our regular viewers) and I did get a card, but still wondering present wise. Any suggestions from you happy campers? As Pirates of the Carri-bean 3 is out friday, methinks a good idea would be take him out for munches and a flick? A plan, maybe, it’s either that or hit the town baby. Who knows, well we won’t know till i get around to speaking to him which should be tommorow, I hope. And also it’s been strange being at home these past few days, as the house is erry. It’s like I was living on my own again, and yes, the washing up still needs to be done, cheers for reminding me.

And very sad news campers, The Legend that is Mr. Paul Thompson (the man who inspired the name of this blog) is leaving us from Work. He is going off to do contracting for a while and is taking lots of money with him too. Fair Play mate, I salute you, and I am sure we will give you a grand send off as you only deserve. Cheers Tom for telling me that earlier.

Right That’s your lot for now again, I have to do the housework now, and yes I know what Time it is. So much crap to clear, so little incentive!

24: Where am I again?

Lord of Leisure Posted on May 20, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureMay 20, 2007

Hello and good evening campers, since thursday after finishing uni I have been away having fun with all sorts of things. Thursday night, got drunk and played WOW, this wasn’t a very clever to do as well It was a school night, and I was late for work the next day!! WHOOPS. It was worth it though. With only 4 and bit weeks now till Glastonbury, and other events, the summer know beckons proper! London is coming up in two weeks and that should be fun on the button!! But anyway That is getting sidetracked yet again!

I learned friday that Work is sending me on a Windows 2003 course which will be nice (see kids, you play dumb, you get things!) and also had a good chat with chez via email, Gutted that Matt’s tueday night cooking is no more, it’s all full up and he finishes in a couple of weeks. Still that won’t stop us now will it? Friday, saw Aunty Bett, who is getting better all the time, will be looking rather rosey for the forthcomming weeks. Also went to suprise natalie, who has been a wee bit iffy health wise, but was better for seeing me. Everyone in the room, go awwwwww. We watched that film Love Actually, which wasn’t a bad film really, but typical Richard Cutis affair really. Which reminds me, (don’t ask me how) Pirates of the C 3 is out this forthcoming friday. Everyone, I command you to go see it, it looks to be a great film, fun on the button, with Keith Richards as Jack’s Dad, that should be strange to see!

Saturday was spent messing around sorting out the front room, visiting Aunty Bett, and Watching Radio 1’s Big Weekend, which wasn;t bad at all but at times the bands were all sounding the same, and late on, there was a this big old woman in a really tight pink dress, and it left nothing to the imagination at all. I was glad I hadn’t eaten at that time being honest, but no it was to see live on the BBC website. All good! Gets you in the mood for other festivals (hint, hint) don’t it?

Sunday, went to the gym, then came back. Work Began today on the podcast, with Mr VO lines being sent for recording and Ideas being formed over topics. Just finished going through the music for the next one and all being well it should be released soon campers. However I am finding it difficult to top the fantastic Spoons Ad which made a lot of people laugh. (But there is a few ideas in the wings, all of which could be as equally as bad) Dad heard the podcast for the very first time today and he was very impressed. The movie opening was great as far as he was concerned. Well, If i can impress him, then I can impress anyone. Watch out world, the Space Adventurer is loose!!

That’s all for now, stay tuned for more rubbish!!

One Hug and a manly handshake.
Paul

OOOOH Sometimes….

Lord of Leisure Posted on May 16, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureMay 16, 2007

Just had the news that I have write everything out for the car accident including a sketch of what happened, what the dad said to me, everything. It appears that the whole business is far from over, when i thought it was. I bet the other guy is protesting his innocence. Honestly It’s not going to end is it? Not without me paying out lots of money somehow. I am really started to get annoyed with cars in general.

The ford is currently getting a replacement pedal and I am at TCAT, writing loads of rubbish and looking at the exam stuff for tommorow. A real sence of foreboding is hitting me. Ah it’s all silly.

Microsoft: Have they broke XP on Purpose?

Lord of Leisure Posted on May 15, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureMay 15, 2007

The title really says it all, just a topic opener really, as I would like some debate on the subject. Now as we all know, Windows Vista came out on an unsuspecting world back in january of this year. The announcement came that XP would no longer be sold as of january next year, and OEMs began only selling Vista with new machines. Now people have found that Vista appears to not work with half their existing software which includes Microsoft’s own Windows Messenger by the way, Oh yes, you have to modify the TCP/IP properties to allow Messenger to connect to the Internet!! The performance is worse than XP, and although Vista looks nice, it offers no advantage over XP at present.

Now in recent months I have been having fun with my laptop becuase there have been errors croping up due to Windows Explorer erroring and producing a Runtime Error 217. Now I have rebuilt the laptop with fresh installs many a time, and then ran updates, and still the same issue. Now I have none of those problems under vista on the same hardware (just the other issues that Vista brings to the table) So on Monday I decieded to take the following steps.

1) Rebuild XP to base SP2.
2) Install base drivers for the Hardware from Dell.
3) Install the following KB Hotfixes only:

WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86
WindowsXP-KB915865-v11-x86-ENU
WindowsXP-KB918005-v4-x86-ENU
WindowsXP-KB927891-v3-x86-ENU
WindowsXP-KB920872-x86-ENU

4) Disable Windows Automatic Updates
5) Install Firefox for main web browser and leave IE6 installed without updates.
6) Proceed to install Office 2007 etc as normal

and so far the process has been a success. The only remaining issue is that WMP plays mp3s far too fast. At the moment I use Winamp instead, but this is a new issue so will require some thinking. Hardware has been checked out anyway, so god knows!! But the interesting thing is, I am not updating to the latest stuff from MS, and the laptop is working fine. Which makes me wonder, have the updates from MS been engineered to cause issues, with the answer being upgrade to Vista? I was not the only one with the problem of the Runtime Error 217 on the internet, it has been documented, but so far there are no fixes for it. It also seems to be random as to what configuration of machine it affects. I have been one of the unlucky ones but others have no issues.

Moral of the Story:
It’s not worth staying up to date using Windows Update. Use other methods of protection from Internet like a firewall and relevant software.

24: Hear Me Now!

Lord of Leisure Posted on May 15, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureMay 15, 2007

Hello one and all, tis I returning with yet another update for this little ol blog of mine, Tis been 24 hours later and things are afoot as far as the two impending exams go. I have not done any revision yet and I have little less than a day to prepare which is going to be differcult at best. The reasons be: The car requires a new Throttle Pedal. Oh yes, the little tiny sensor requires a new pedal. Quite strange but there we are. And it has to be replaced in Telford tommorow, which means some time will be wasted at TCAT trying to revise there as that is the only option I have. Also There is other work which has to be completed tommorow, nothing to do with this. Consider it an activity not work related, but in a way related to the podcasts. Oh the criptic stuff again, i really do excel at that!!

The company I work for gave a presentation which said basically “We did well, but we have to work better and cheaper”, which normally is the same crap given year after year from most companies. The issues remain that despite pleas about wasteful processes we still do the exact same things now, and no-one cares about hearing what improvements can be made. Also several reasons given for money lost, could have been prevented if people knew what they were doing. Management skimped out on paying for a printer, then they had to pay out on a more expensive printer due to a massive f-up. We are to blame for this. Everyone thought the exact same thing: Bo***cks. Never mind, we all went back to work afterwards and carried on as before. That’s the thing if you work for big companies. It appears the management have to find something to do with their time, so they come up with all sorts of ways to “improve” things, but ultimately fail and then the cycle begins again. It’s sad but there we are.

Aunty Bett is fine as well, she has been moved to the normal ward now (well last time i heard anyway) so now begins the progress of recovery. WHich frankly is only a good thing. I won’t be able to see her now till thursday, but I am sure she will be fine. I can’t wait for the weekend to begin frankly. IT will be the first time in yonks I do whatever without work getting in the way. BWAHAHA! There is other stuff which has gone on, but I will keep that for another time. For now I must prepare for the long day tommorow. Bye for now!!
