Hearthstone Happy Hour: The “I just come back” Edition

Lord of Leisure Posted on August 8, 2018 by The Lord of LeisureAugust 8, 2018

Welcome one and all to the “I just came back from somewhere else” edition of the Hearthstone Happy Hour, just a matter of days before the new expansion, the Boomsday Project would be unleashed upon the world.

Of course, none of this would go smoothly, there would be complete rubbish talked about with various wee scamps on chat and of course, more silly card playing which may or may not make any sense whatsoever.

Enjoy!

A mini meh about….. Skyscraper

Lord of Leisure Posted on August 3, 2018 by The Lord of LeisureAugust 3, 2018

It’s brown trousers time.

July was been a bit of a weird time for films we would class as an out and out summer blockbuster to park down with, chew on various things and woo incessantly over. A typical time of year where kids are off and get to hound their parents into spending time and money over things the parents have no wish to actually do themselves. The last trip to the cinema to enjoy the Incredibles 2, was enjoyable fun but other than that, there wasn’t really anything to jump up and down with joy over.

So when Skyscraper finally came onto the scene mid July, it came as something of a relief. Promising boombastic set-pieces and even getting some comparisons to Die Hard (the best Christmas film ever), in the summer drought we’ve been experiencing thanks to the World Cup and studios also not wanting to clash with their own movies’ box office, this was just needed. But would it live up to the comparisons being made with Die Hard? After all, Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber is a tall order to better for the required villain here in Skyscraper. Jon Mclean anyone? Yippee Kay Yay? Ok, I’ll stop. Continue reading →

Yakuza this mother lovers!

Lord of Leisure Posted on August 2, 2018 by The Lord of LeisureAugust 2, 2018

It’s the latest livestream for your dining and dancing pleasure, which included some actual dancing as it goes….. in shorts!

Yakuza 0 released on PC 1st August and given all the hoopla about it, along with it only being 11 quid to buy, I decided having no idea what the hell it was to play it live and in essence get lost in a game of thrones world of treachery and extremely long cut scenes.

Will I enjoy it over the couple of hours that I was live and chatting away to you all? Well, only one way to find out eh?

A mini meh about….. Incredibles 2

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 25, 2018 by The Lord of LeisureJuly 25, 2018

Not so Mr. Incredible…..

I literally had to look up when the first Incredibles film by Pixar came out before they were swallowed up by the house of Mouse (Disney, our new corporate overlords who control everything we geeks like it seems) and actually ponder one thing; Who was asking for this sequel?

Unlike the back and forth you would see in the geeksphere about whether Blade Runner should have had a sequel or not, this pretty much snuck up on everyone and frankly regardless of how good it was, automatically becomes a welcome relief from the lack of anything decent to watch during the summer months this year, by all accounts because of the World Cup and the studios not wanting to release all they had done at the same time, thus cannibalising ticket sales at the box office.

Hi movie studios, some of us don’t care about ballfoot so if you can sort this all out proper next time, that would be great, mmkay? Continue reading →

Aftermath: Two For One! Incredibles 2 and Skyscraper

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 22, 2018 by The Lord of LeisureJuly 22, 2018

It’s an Aftermath Two for the Price of One! Well, the price for yourselves is free as you don’t pay for this anyway so you’re even happier!

Having missed standing around in the cinema like a complete loon after watching films this week, I decided to spend about 20 minutes in front of the webcam talking about what thoughts were in my tiny head when it comes to two recent releases.

First up, Incredibles 2, the sequel to Disney and Pixar’s hit from over a decade ago, which frankly comes as a surprise. Will it be just as incredible as the first?

Secondly, we have the latest action explosion-em-up with Dwayne the Rock Johnson that has had various comparisons with Die Hard. Skyscraper certainly then has a bit more pressure on it then from a fanboy point of view.

Will you want to splash the cash hiding away from the sun with these two or will you best to sweat it outside until Ant Man and the Wasp? Best to watch then eh?

Events this week on lordofleisure.com

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 16, 2018 by The Lord of LeisureJuly 16, 2018

Hi all, like in the before time, in the long long ago, it’s time for another update post on this merry old website while I have a few minutes free. First of all, as alluded to previously, we will be carrying out the lordofleisure.com site move this week to a smaller server to save some cash and possibly have newer versions with new features being avaliable.

Work will be beginning tomorrow and hopefully will not result in downtime here for the three bots and the odd lost bloke looking for Amazon Prime deals, but you know how it goes with doing complicated stuff you don’t understand! So to those bots and the lost bloke, sorry if there’s any meh!

In regards to other things, hopefully there will be a couple of livestreams this week with Hearthstone of course featuring and maybe something else we’ve not done yet and of course maybe the odd mini meh in itself. Watched Tomb Raider this weekend and dear god…… We do of course have some new releases to look at, starting with the Incredibles 2 tonight and the latest mega action explosion starring the Rock, Skyscraper. It’s Die Hard basically by all accounts, so should be a damn good time.

Anyhoo, that’s all I’ve got for now, stay tuned for more rubbish at a later time!

Hearthstone Happy Hour: The “A new expansion got announced!” Edition

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 12, 2018 by The Lord of LeisureJuly 12, 2018

It’s been a good while since another livestream and of course with recent events in the news, I think it was good timing to sit down and laugh at my expense while playing a children’s card game, don’t you?

From the Tavern Brawl full of “Shifter Zerus” to wearing a dressing gown and remarking on how hot it is, you can be sure that this will be an hour and a half you will never get back!

A mini meh about…. Uncle Drew

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 10, 2018 by The Lord of LeisureJuly 10, 2018

I couldn’t even pull a new face for this mini meh. Meh is indeed right here.

The end credits rolled at the end of Uncle Drew with an extra scene where an ex-girlfriend who clearly was a bad human being and stole oxygen was trying to get back with the guy she used and threw out towards the beginning of the film. I have no idea how that scene ends as I needed to go for a walk after struggling to stay awake for the hour and a half-ish that the film filled the screen. The audience was light in number, not a surprise considering it was a Monday, but there were many times I forgot there was anyone else there considering that they also seemed to be lapsed into comas.

The silence from the audience was deafening.

Uncle Drew is the latest attempt it seems at a sporting comedy thing where various stereotypes are confronted, used to alleged comic effect with a heartwarming tale that ends with everyone winning over the bad guys who did our heroes wrong or whatever. This is a clear example of where some films rely too much on crutches of American culture, and pretty much then google all other plots of films to copy and paste enough bits to then get away with a screenplay that will be just different enough not to allow for accusations of plagiarism to be valid.

I can’t even recall a more “phoned-in” film this year through the parts I was awake for Uncle Drew.

The plot was too formulaic, the characters I couldn’t give a damn about at any time during the whole misadventure. The jokes were I guess were supposed to be there but the one joke that came closest to me breaking more than a smile was when Shaquille O’Neal was compared to being Wolverine’s grandfather. One. One Joke. That one joke also failed to make me break out in anything resembling a laugh. This is supposed to be a comedy, right?

In fact one could argue that we had one example of a much better comedy to wait for and it’s Ant Man Vs. The Wasp which we still have a few weeks to wait for in the UK. It was like a prize on a gameshow where we lost and we just had to look at what we could have been watching had we won instead. Then they wheeled out Uncle Drew for us losers.

May 2018 Website update

Lord of Leisure Posted on June 25, 2018 by The Lord of LeisureJune 25, 2018

Afternoon all, just a general update regarding work in the background.

The web site will again be moving home again, thanks to various Operating System releases coming out recently and basically we will be moving back to the nice cheaper solution as since moving to the more expensive server, just not seen enough traffic to justify it.

So there will again be another outage to be scheduled towards the end of July. Not that many people will miss it! Closer to the time of course, we will advise.

In regards to this tired old site not looking so tired, the lordofleisure web site redesign will likely have to rely on a paid for theme for WordPress soon, as basically I have no design skills, which I am sure will come as a shock to anyone who has seen a video I made or indeed this web site….. cough…..

Content has been on the slow go and will be for a while longer, while basically I decide where to spend the time to be honest. I may just cut back on where content will show up or just concentrate on two areas where I know I can actually do what I was hoping to do, mainly as this is basically all done as a hobby at the moment and thus it must coexist with wasting hours on FortNite to then go to the NHS for game addiction treatment. Yes campers, it’s a real thing.

The sad reality is, because this is a hobby and requires investment in many forms, I am not sure how much of my own cash to keep spending on all the stuff I do here and of course for the livestreaming etc and I’ve got to get the ol’ money calculator out and see what the situation will be going forward. I hate to ask for cash given how infrequent I do things but maybe that’s the way it has to go. Be a shill and plug anything for cash.

Of course that matters not one jot to you, the happy campers who come and look at content here in any case, and of course I thank you from the bottom of my cold dead heart. Hopefully there will be a happy medium reached where you have rubbish you like in a nicely presented form at a reasonable pace. It’s always the goal but it never works quite the way we think. If you have anything you would like to see, then why not leave a message on the website, then perhaps that would be what I go for in future.

Till we meet again!

A mini meh about…… Oceans 8

Lord of Leisure Posted on June 22, 2018 by The Lord of LeisureJune 25, 2018

Oceans 8, meet Paul’s Yawn.

I can actually cut to the chase about Oceans 8; This was boring.

It’s no joke sadly, I was honestly bored while sat down in the cinema watching the latest glitzy heist / con artist entry in what seems to now the “Oceans” franchise. It’s likely that you all remember the 2001 remake of the original 60s hit? It stared the Clooneist of Georges among various other stars like Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Julia Roberts.

The central premise of Oceans 11 was that our elite thieves of our hearts as well as money set their sights on robbing Andy Garcia blind while a boxing match was being played out in Las Vegas. Cue a few mishaps, a bad English accent from Don Cheadle and some frankly awesome music set up various sequels there after of varying quality.

So I can only conclude that Hollywood decided enough time had past from Oceans 13 and it was time to milk the same teat once more for everyone’s hard earned cash. The thing is, I don’t think it’s the cast’s fault. Why even remark on that? Well this time, it’s the turn of the ladies to take centre stage.

Much like the remake of Ghostbusters back in 2015, the main cast of men was replaced by women, and there are some find choices here with decent acting chops to say the least. Sandra Bullock plays Debbie Ocean, who happens to be the sister to Danny Ocean (formally George Clooney) which automatically raised the question of….. how come we didn’t know about her before? Well therein lies the rub. Rather than make the clean break from the previous films, Oceans 8 is a follow-on, even going as far as getting a couple of the original cast members to turn up. This means that really, they are relying on Nostalgia to hold the rest of this film up and that’s where it gets a bit silly.

Wonder if they are watching the film back too…..

Danny Ocean’s dead ladies. They make that clear from the first couple of minutes in fact. I suspect it’s more down to the fact they couldn’t get Clooney to come back in any shape and form for his “endorsement” for this sequel, and in a strange sort of they then have that hang over moments of the film all the way through. What’s worse, it appears to be almost the same plot, involving stealing stuff that’s worth a lot while getting one over on an Ex. Hell they even have pretty much the same scene between Debbie Ocean and her friend Lou (Cate Blanchett) as George Clooney and Brad Pitt have in the first remake when it comes to the ex. The only twist here is the Ex had Debbie put in prison, so it’s pretty much just straight up revenge. Continue reading →
