24: Wednesday brings annoyance

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 25, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureApril 7, 2008

I have no idea why but this morning when I got into work i was annoyed. At everything. doesn’t matter what it was, I was annoyed. Maybe it’s the lack of decent sleep that’s catching up to me and I am becoming a Jekyll and Hyde guy. Actually that would be cool if it was like off the BBC1 Drama that’s been showing on Saturday Nights. Welcome to the company Mary Poppins!

Going through lots and lots of paperwork at the moment, which naturally you won’t want to know about. It’s boring to talk about work and the same things over and over again, but regretfully as things go recently nothing fantastically over the top exciting is happening. I have the new machine, Aunty Bett’s at home. That’s it really.

I suppose it’s one of the downsides of having a blog. You have to keep on doing lots of different things in order to keep it up to date and I suppose there in lies the rub. Some people’s lives the same occurs day in day out and therefore it’s hard to write about. Other people, they live the lives of super people, running around here there and everywhere living to the full. I try to be like that but even I have to understand at some point, the life will drag a small bit.

And actually there is a load of things to talk about in the real world as it goes, the on-going floods affecting large parts of Britain, the films coming out this week (only mention it because of Transformers, goes off to do naughty…) the fact that Oswestry it appears now has a venue where there are live gigs most days of the week, and I didn’t even know till walking through the town last week.

You see, perhaps the key to writing a blog like this is to think about what you do, what you see and the best way of entertaining the masses (well I say masses, for this site it ranges in the literate tens of hits). And if like me, you have the skill to talk about complete and utter bo**cks, well the internet blog is your oyster.

I could talk about friends past and present, what they do and write naughty things about them here for a laugh (not the first time I have done that mind?!?) also get hyped up about up and coming things like the weekend for example, Nat and I are going back to Manchester for a dinner evening with Glyn again, to be ever so slightly civilised (whatever that is).

Aunty Bett is having a new kitchen fitted soon so over the next two weeks cooking will be fun, mind you that’s fun now, because she can’t cook unless it’s meals in the microwave, the microwave Mum and Dad bought is crap, it seems to only do the outside of the food and not the middle which is always annoying, even after you leave it on for far longer than is required. So that’s another job!

Here is another lesson in Life: Buying Cheap doesn’t always guarantee quality. Then again lots of quality costs the earth so it is always a case of trying to find the balance in life. See, another topic which can be great to talk about, the cost of living nowadays.

The great thing about a blog is that you can write about anything you want and it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t get read, it is a great way of getting things off your chest (or breasts, we’re a broad church here, and the broader the better… 🙂 ) and may the medium continue for ever more I say.

I have to go this evening to record the second show for the radio course, the full content will be posted online at some point, i did ask for a copy of the finished material when all is edited, you won’t get full songs btw, it’s more about the bits in-between that we get points for. Just think, that could have been me on the radio some day.

That’s actually something else which has dawned on me, it’s not long before that all ends, i get the wee piece of paper to say I am qualified in radio, and then it goes back to doing what I do now. Though it’s not an entirely bad thing, it’s just a case of going back to reality. After all the people on the course are a right hoot, especially Will.

Now Will is a man who can come up with funny gags and situations on the fly, he is impressive and I have never seen this before. I think he would do very well on the stand-up circuit and indeed in the limelight. Here’s an example, for his first show, he had sumos wrestling in the studio. Basically two guys making grunting noises while he carried on. Brilliant!

See I actually could go on about other things but perhaps i should leave it there. You know, I started writing this today and I thought there isn’t anything happening, and as it turns out there is lots happening, you just have to look for it and think once in a while what is there in front of you. By jingle I may just have a point there. Paul Hughes, The Space Adventurer having a point? Whatever next?

Site Issue

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 22, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureJuly 22, 2007

A few of you may have noticed that the website has been up and down. This methinks has been due to an issue with the MYSQL server at the hosting company I use, I have changed this and hopefully, the site will remain up far more.

Podcast 8 Delayed

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 22, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureJuly 22, 2007

Yes I will disappoint you all again, as time has escaped and despite the recording being three quarters of the way through, I have been really off the ball and the editing is going to take me a while I am afraid. At this rate the next cast will be about both Glastonbury and V Festival!?!?! Never mind I promise it is worth waiting for (I know I saying that to what the two, three people who cares but hey, I feel I must at least keep you lot, the good public informed.

Shame really as the two tracks lined up are fantastic. Find out who they are soon!! As it is 11:00pm on the sunday and I have a long day at work tommorow, I am off to bed. Good night campers, and keep on ticking.

24: The Sunday after all is said and done…

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 22, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureApril 7, 2008

Well campers, Aunty Bett is now home and we are all happy. She is chirpy as anything and will get better even more now she is away from there. Fantastic! Nurse will come in every day for her, but on the whole she is free to do what she likes at home. At the moment, she’s just having a kip, it’s just good to have someone home again every day, and she will be able to keep me on my toes a lot more now.

She said her farewells to the other women around her and to the nurses as well. Some cards were given as a thank you along with two tubs of Celebrations, well they deserve more being honest as they helped Aunty Bett so much but then again that would onto the old argument of how understaffed and underpaid the nurses are on the NHS but that’s for another time methinks.

Happy days are back in Oswestry again. Really happy.

Mum and Dad came and went as usual, they had a few words to say about my new shiny toy, of which I am using right now dear campers to have fun with, and as I politely raised my voice with a reasonable argument towards mother, it all seems to have died down now. Like I said, no nice car means very nice machine, and campers…. it is very nice.

In fact it has gone some way to persuade me Vista is not all that crap actually. It runs like a dream bearly breaking a sweat in most things. There is stutter though as I waltzed through Quake 4 at 1920 x 1200 resolution on Ultra Detail, but methinks this is down to the on-board sound which can be sorted with one extra order to OCUK for a Sound Blaster if required.

innt big?!?!

this is the look of the beast on my desk at home now, as you can see you can’t help but stare at the 24in widescreen monitor can you? Trust me, it is like playing games on a big screen telly with a console but also watching films as well is different. I like this screen, it even came with a USB hub and Card reader built in. No dead pixels yet, though it has only been on a few hours at most. Very good monitor indeed.

And finally for Glyn who wanted to know what the score from 3D Mark 06 (a geeks benchmark tool used to wave our tiny manhoods about to other geeks, and which people in the real world don’t care about) for the system here it is, and bear in mind it is running on vista which slows things down quite a bit even now:

numbers. k.

No idea if that is good or bad, but what the hey? It wasted a few minute testing the system out! But It is the last uber system I will ever buy. That’s it now, no more pc bits. (He says knowing full well something else will tempt him down the line)

Right back in the real world now and the coming week promises to be dull. Nought going on in funky town really and it looks to be like that till next week when we travel back to Manchester for a “Civilised” evening with others….hmm, wonder what is civilised nowadays actually?

The podcast is in the middle of recording and I sincerely hope that i do release it today as i said earlier as it’s been a few weeks since old Glastonbury and it’s getting a bit long in the tooth now isn’t it?

Also have some paperwork to get on with and cleaning the house too. When will it end and I can go back to playing?

BYE ALL!!!!

24: The day before the next day

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 20, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureApril 7, 2008

Wow, my ability to come up with titles for these posts continue to amaze even me, oh my, what will i come up with next? Stay tuned to this channel!!

A few worthy mentions from Yesterday:

  1. Saw Aunty Bett after work, which was very nice, she is really chirpy and I don’t blame her at all. I have to give the house a good clean before she comes out tomorrow but no worries on that front. And the Social Workers say she is fine to look after her self as she can move about quite well it seems. All in all, jolly good news campers.

But a few things as well, an official note here to the nurses at Gobowen, you are fantastic and thanks very much for looking after her during this difficult period. We will be round with chocolate stuff tomorrow.

  2. Went with Natalie last night to see the new Hairy Pot-head film instead as plans for Sunny Wales went a bit silly. And must admit, not overly impressed.

Lots of wizzy effects, but it just seem to miss an awful lot of information (I never read the books so will miss bits anyway. I’m naturally lazy and therefore have the attention span of a 4 year old when it comes to big books, but give me a colouring book and I am more than happy!) also it seems they just shoe-horned in as many famous people as they could within the three hours.

Shame (insert plot here) happened, with next to no drama but there we are. Suppose it sets it all up nicely for the next film. But must confess, did do naughty when the trailer for Transformers came on, and they have the old sounds too. Dear me, so want to see it! Only one week to go. WOWOWOW!

  3. And finally , the radio is coming to a close soon, got lots of paperwork to do and then the proper show. All good excitement let me tell you! The next Chris Moyles….the next fat b******d on the radio more like.

Well campers, granted that is not brilliant news (well Aunty Bett is always good news) but given since the last update that things have been a bit low on the ground in terms of the social and other things keep me busy at present, it seems not an awful lot. However, don’t worry, things will return to their usual silliness soon. I know it will. BWAHAHA!

And by the way, since Wednesday’s post I actually feel better in myself. Strange how it’s come and gone again like that. Bloody hell, I’m turning into a woman!! Gerald, the man pills please!

24: What is going on?

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 18, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureApril 7, 2008

Tonight as I type this, I feel a bit down. Actually lately I have been feeling a bit down, you know what fat people do when they get depressed. We eat like the fat f**ks we are. And now my stomach is growing fast.

My boobs are bigger than Natalie’s, and something must be done sooner rather than later. Now normally you would expect me as a man to say “Oh well, that’s that. Pull yourself together you wimp”, not like go on more of a bender. Except I went one expensive step further than that.

I went and bought a load of PC parts. They come on Saturday. It’s an uber system when it’s finished. 1.5TB of storage, a Geforce 8800 GTX uber gfx card, a geek’s wet dream. And I feel a bit better, after all if I can’t have a really nice car, I want a really nice machine. DAMMIT, I’m allowed!

I can spend money on PC bits again willy nilly despite the noise and the big system once again will be inhabiting the floor and a fair proportion of the desk, seeing as the Monitor is a Dell 24in widescreen affair. Yep, went overboard.

Does anyone have any good ideas of what I can do, and please no obvious jokes. Heard them all and actually invented a few, which are still in use today. Sort of like vintage wine, some of my jokes carry on being funny. Timing, it’s all about timing good people.

Anyway, Harry Potter’s showing Cheshire Oaks went a bit off, as the showing there was late, and we aren’t available the week after, so tomorrow Nat and I are going to see the film in Shrewsbury. Nice. Maybe that will take my mind of things. Actually I have been missing the cinema recently. Missed Ocean’s Thirteen which peaked the interest. Shrek the third still is on the list, despite the crap reviews. So that will be on the list.

Aunty Bett is coming home on Saturday for sure so that will be a fantastic occasion for her. Brilliant! And Well work has been very busy. Boring news there. Sorry campers, this stuff just isn’t that interesting this evening. My mood is not quite as it should be really. Don’t know why.

Site Update

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 17, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureApril 7, 2008

Have finally finished the About me question bit that I said i was going to do such a long time ago. There are still bits to add but overall the page seems to be far more complete.

Also in the process of converting the videos from the site to flash to be hosted from here instead of relying on Myspace, which it appears people are leaving in their droves for Facebook.

As my good friend Matt says, all these places are for, are “OOOH look at me, I need attention!” and in a strange way he is 100% right. But it got me readers and I am desperate for attention so….

“EVERYONE LOOK AT ME!!”

24: The weekend is done!

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 17, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureApril 7, 2008

Tuesday is here, and right now I type away very happy in many ways but sad in one way for a friend. Chin up my dear, there are better people.

Anyway, Manchester was a great time up there, seeing Mr Glyn once again and Scooby and the rest of the gang. Here’s a picture nicked from Glyn’s blog and you will notice something that some of you will know to be impossible:

WOOOO!

Yes, do you not see? NO RAIN!! Every time I have been to visit Glyn up there, the heavens open up and I always have a feeling that Noah’s ark is going to flow down the river. but for once, and only once there was no rain. Brilliant!

The usual gang was there, Kevin (Colombo), Sam, Dave, Kelly, Glyn’s Mum and Speical guests that I have never seen in Manchester before, a scary bloke who talked about trains and getting out of paying fines. And the other woman who didn;t really say much that I can remember but seemed nice anyway. Oh and Natalie was there…..aye, true guv’nor,

My darling girl had braved the journey with me this time to see the marry people and yee ha it was good. Loved Glyn’s mum by all accounts, and thought all these people were great. The geeks there all chatted about how crap Windows Vista was, and remark on many many world eventy things, you see that’s one of the things I like about the nights out up there, you can talk about social issues in an open forum while getting drunk. Nice.

Sunday was spent waking up, leeching various TV shows off Glyn, and was introduced to Monkey Dust from the BBC, and a character known as the Peudo-finder General (By the powers invested in me by a Sky News Phone Poll, I execute you!) it’s a late night cartoon kids, and if you ever saw it you will know why.

I must admit it is one of the strangest and funniest things I have seen in such a long time, and it sends up Life so well, it’s just a sight to behold. Fair play mate for finding that!

Natalie and I walked around rainy Manchester, wandering round, Nat wanted to see everything in the few hours we had but alas it can not always be the case, and it will have to wait until next time, which by the looks of things will be in two weeks time.

Didn’t get back till late as a result, and didn’t really see Mum and Dad this weekend which was weird. But on Saturday we did have abit of a chat while I was doing ironing, and today Mum told me some great news (touch wood) that Aunty Bett will be home on Saturday after she had a home visit today. Fantastic news! I feel like drinking full of merriment.

I really do campers, because it is the news I have been waiting for such a long time. It will be great to see her again in the evenings after I run away here there and everywhere once again.

And now as I type this on the use and abuse machine at work I find myself thinking, Get the bloody podcast done!! See all in all, I never do anything exciting, and yes it seems people still read this rubbish. Even had a message from someone at school I used to know, Mr Stoo Mackintosh. He has a pole dancer for a girlfriend. Git. Till next time, good people! Move along!

24: Twas the weekend when I looked…

Lord of Leisure Posted on July 14, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureApril 7, 2008

Hello campers, only the Space Adventurer back again with more ramblings afoot. Last night, after a very long day in work for various dull reasons, went out to Shrewsborugh (formally known as Shrewsbury) and had a jolly-ish evening with a few nice people. From both Sunny Wales and Sunny Shropshire this time no less. Dave and Chris, fair play were very brave coming down considering the crap weather which made me think of Glastonbury all over again!

The Quarry was the venue of choice and if it wasn’t for the rain, it would have been fantastic. Dave and Chris zoomed in on the free ice cream, and we even stood at the front dancing while Jools let his magic fingers work on the piano with little to no effort at all. A great joy to see as you can see here:

Stage

This was one of only two pictures I bothered taking this time, didn’t bring the camera out as well, didn’t really bother me as such to go to the effort of recording. Besides the I need to shop for a better camera after what I produced from Glastonbury and it was raining too much to use outside anyway.

Hello Campers!

This was the other picture. Aren’t they nice looking? Anyway, we were huddled under umbrellas till half way through, when (possibly through the gift of laughing at the rain, as Mr Holland suggested) it stopped and the view was clear once again.

Ruby Turner was great on stage, terrific voice to her, and of course Lulu was nice, everyone waiting methinks till she started singing Shout! Terrible, and the fireworks in the evening rounded it off. Not a 100% fantastic evening cos of the weather, but what the hey. Come on V, we’re veterans now, do your worst!!

This evening, we will be in Manchester and then tomorrow bugger knows. Haven’t a scooby of what will go down. But I know this. I have actually got some ironing out the way for once!! Can I get a yeah?!? Thought not.
