24: For those upset by Bioshock’s Root Kit

Lord of Leisure Posted on August 31, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureApril 6, 2008

A nice verse

Thought this was very good when I saw it, not mine but at least it does seem to match what most people on the 2K forums are feeling as well. In fact it seems a lot of people are wanting a crack to be released as soon as possible for their own legitimately purchased titles.

I agree to a certain extent, why include activation, and then require to have the DVD in the drive all the time? Even owners of the game purchased through Steam, the service which provided you have a net connection, doesn’t require to have the media, and there is no restriction on how many PCs host the content. Seems to be a wrong thing to do, for me anyway.

Actually the game itself is fine. Just the protection for it has cost the publishers credibility and in today’s already fickle market where it appears there are fewer and fewer decent PC games, it could make things worse. The consoles really have a lot going for them now in terms of games, and due to certain companies choices like Microsoft’s engineering of the DirectX API, among others, we will never see the likes of Guitar Hero on PC.

Some would argue that’s a good thing, (Guitar Hero may not be their thing) I say no. As it stands give us all the good games we can have on PC. I would love Buzz to be on PC but it never will despite the fact that the controllers for it are USB and therefore no real extra cost would be incurred in porting it across.

There we are campers, the rant for the day. Stay tuned later on for further developments from the week’s fun and frolics!!

24: Tuesday Tandoori 2

Lord of Leisure Posted on August 28, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureApril 6, 2008

Yes friends it’s the return of the Tuesday Tandoori, after all this time the special offer blog post is back, offering quality nuggets of information at a reasonable price. You can even bring your own beer! What more can you ask for?

Well you can start by asking about the V Festival. Well campers, in the forthcoming podcast, I will explain what went on, I will indeed and the reason for all the silly strange wording as to what happened and the level of vagueness will be split open. Although if you were look at what I have got, I am wondering whether or not it will actually fill up one podcast or I simply talk about Bioshock for the half hour. Honestly the more I thought about it, the harder it was to talk about.

There were great bands, Snow Patrol for instance were brilliant, as were the Killers for the second time this year, saw some new bands like Mumm-ra that Matt said about when we were all at glastonbury. There were also a few other things which dragged it down. Just wait for Podcast 10 for the full review.

As for the pictures, well, At Glastonbury there were loads and loads. V, the majority of the photos are blurred beyond belief and in fact most of it is a write-off. After sifting through a few of them, there are around 5 images which are viewable, and there maybe more if we start editing them getting the quality a bit better.

There is no real video either I am afraid, except for one which will be released later this week: The Killers. Audio is perfect because their set was quieter than the others, there is no distortion and therefore the audio is the one of the best bootleg releases you are likely to hear of the Killers. Ooh I bet you can’t wait!

Thursday I have some major events at work to take care and if all goes well, things will be rosy. Nice. However it all hinges on me learning the business speak which no-one cares about but gives the managers a hard-on to talk about. Here lies the problem.

A lot of the things they talk about are common sense but alas they also have long winded names for meaning the same thing. Bugger. I also have a lot of writing to do, hence this is the last post until Friday to sort things out.

Quite a bit of been happening in the news, The fires in Greece causing nothing but fun for everyone, and There is no timetable for the withdrawal of Troops in Iraq. But no-one cares about that do they? Iraq is boring now, it’s the same thing over and over again.

For crying out loud, can something interesting happen now? Like someone discovers a secret custard pie factory that creates pies which increases the human life span by 50 years? That would be great, but no.

There are other tragic events happening in the world closer to home such as the various shootings (the investigation of that 11 year old which which shot continues, and hopefully the b******ds will be brought to justice) and well sometimes you have to ask when it will stop. The unfortunate truth is it will never stop. What a waste. They really should consider my game idea, swap the guns for keyboards and mice.

Besides Real life is dull, we are far more interested in boycotting Amy Winehouse’s music so she gets the help she needs to get off the Lemsip or Calpol, whatever she has been sniffing. Here, Here I say. Although in a strange way I am one of a few people who indeed will have seen her live this year. So little time, so many cancelled concerts. On no account must anyone think I taking the p*** here….:)

The FaceBook has been getting a small bit of interest, already have some friends from the MySpace lot and also been having fun with more bits and bobs. Woo. Honestly that’s it.

Just time for the desert now on the Tuesday Tandoori, Bioshock btw is very good, and well i am really wanting to get to the end, despite the formula of going places, collecting stuff and shooting enermies, it’s just done very well. Come on the weekend, daddy needs to kill things again! Also catching up with playing with things over here on the uber beast, oooh so much I want to do again.

Ah never mind, I will lose the will do it all at some point again and will end up watching repeats of the Saturday and Friday Night Armistice, remember that quality show on the BBC, well someone kindly gave me a video with the recorded shows so that has been very good to see that sort of thing again. You know Armando Iannucci, the lead presenter still has a show like that on Radio 4 these days called Charm Offensive, check it out if you are into that sort of thing on the BBC radio player, you know that “Listen again” clever thing they have.

Shame though as that was a quality show. BBC, look at the archives and see where you’ve been going right. Ooh another rant, I need more drugs, maybe Amy has some to spare?

Enough now, as it goes I need to get rid of my chesty cough and nose. So in order to do that, I will sacrifice one of the neighbours’ cats. No reason for it, it will just be fun. Till next time campers, BYE!

HELP WANTED

Lord of Leisure Posted on August 27, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureAugust 27, 2007

Hello campers, just a quick note to say Flash is f**king hard. To do actionscript to import xml created from getting blog posts from a MYSQL database, there is no way I know enough, even trying to design static content requires far more knowledge than I have.

If anyone can help with this or recommend some training, please let me know.

24: The Lord of Leisure

Lord of Leisure Posted on August 26, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureApril 7, 2008

I have been very very lazy over this past few days, just messing around mainly at home, due to the fact that I am on call. Having said that however, Friday was most interesting. During the day, I received an email from Lesley in London after all this time asking how I am etc, and I still haven’t responded yet, but it will get done.

During my lunchtime, I bought the collectors edition of Bioshock, remember me saying about it a little while back on Thursday, it’s a first person shooter for PC and Xbox 360 where you stay alive by altering your genetic make-up and using the environment around you to get the bad guys.

Anyway, the collector’s edition contained a replica of one of the “Big Daddy” characters you will see and learn to fear, with a drill for one hand and they are tough in that diving suit thing, you will be hard pressed to defeat them. They protect “little sisters”, they steal something called ADAM off dead genetic freaks, and occasionally you need that. There are various ways to play the game I tell you what, it is quite scary too, when playing at night, and you hear all these deranged voices. Very well done chaps.

Spoke for Nat, and it turns out Ignos and Laura were away the weekend so monday’s fun was out. Still not sure what we are going to do yet, I will let you know when I do!! 🙂

Now on the way home after shopping at Tescos for bits and bobs, filling up with petrol, I was expecting to stay at home all weekend, catching up with a few outstanding items on the list of things to do, when out of the blue, Ms Ruth Bowden contacts us, asking am I coming out in Wrexham.

Now keep in mind, the last time I heard from her was way back in April, where it was one text message and that was it. I spoke to her at this point and it turns out she has been in the army all summer, away from all forms of communication, and she had only just come home. Bit of a doosy to say the least.

I said I would meet her at 10 in town, because being honest i had to travel back, sort myself out, but most importantly, play through a bit of Bioshock! Oh yes, well, I just got it, I wanted to have a go, why the hell not eh? There are certain things a man must do to keep his mind at peace, and splatting virtual enemies in numerous and bloody ways is one of them. I think it stems back to the cavemen days where we used just beat the crap out of everyone and everything.

We still have that of course, with all these numerous military events occurring in the world now, but it’s much more civilised in the way combat is laid out, but people still get hurt and killed. What better way to satisfy the crave, than violence in a digital world? Sounds silly but it works. Maybe all wars should be fought that way? Be a lot more fun methinks for many many people out there in the world. Perhaps the leaders of our respective nations should consider this? After all, nice gaming rigs, with net access cost far less than all these tanks and stuff.

Anyway I digress. Met up with Ruth, her sister Rachel, Mike who clearly hates dancing places as he always looks miserable, and another guy (can’t remember his name exactly, think it was Andy) from Uni. We had a few laughs, remarked on situations that certain people found themselves in, no real guesses who that is, it is rather sad and no further comment will be passed on this post. And, well it appears Ruth missed me. A Lot.

I have never had so many hugs before, dear dear, it appears the army wore her down!! We spoke a lot, and although she said she’s changed, she’s also the same as before in oh so many ways. Trust me campers, if you’ve met her you know what she’s like. Anyway, after that chat, we bopped around in Liquid, and well Wrexham it has to be said was deserted on Friday.

It appears everyone went away for the weekend. Still never mind, had some silly dancing, bit of a hoe down as you do, and this went on till around 2:30 (Mike had left earlier in a taxi, we were all outside, and as soon as he was gone, everyone went back and partied a bit more. Yes doesn’t that rub of “get rid of him”? methinks so) It was good, but there was a bit where I was bored. Aside from the fact of being sober, i think it was the fact that clubs and what have you, people are trying to get with other people, often with no success, and well, when you are with someone, you lose the point of it. SO you start making your own entertainment up. 🙂

Anyway, slep through most of Saturday, but still had time to weed the side of the house, and put lots of weed killer down, watched the entire series of Hyperdrive, which was “alright” in some ways. And also watched two episodes of a new drama called Californication, which has David “X-Files” Duchovny as a lay about writer who wrote one book, turned it into a crap movie and goes around “enjoying other ladies” while his ex is getting married to a dope.

Now it sounds a bit silly and it is. That’s what’s great about it. It is actually very watchable. And there are numerous sex scenes which is nice! When you get the chance to watch it, please do.

Watched a bit more of the Starcraft 2 videos on the net, showing more of the single player and Terran units. Very geeky but it’s one of those I am really looking forward to. They have changed a fair amount on how the game will work and yet, it still feels like the Starcraft of old from what you see.

Another thing I watched was the IT Crowd on Channel 4. Now the first series to me was rubbish, it played all on the old stereotypes known about geeks in the IT business, and well it was old hash, only when It started getting away from that, and moving on did it get good. Moss is brilliant missing the point on everything.

Well the first episode last night about seeing a gay musical called Gay was all in all brilliant. It was better than the entire first series put together. More of that please Channel 4. And no more Big Bother, which as it goes, is getting shelved in part because of all that silliness earlier this year with the boring race row blah blah. See, produce decent stuff instead of the big brother tripe and you will get people like me watching the TV again instead of doing other things.

And finally Played a couple of hours of World of Warcraft to round off a perfectly lazy day by the Lord of Leisure!! We are now on Sunday of this three day lazy about, and so far so good. I do want to just do a few bits like tidy up the place, hoover out the kitchen, and do bits on the website and next podcast but I’m guessing the way I feel right now, it’s not going to happen.

There is so much that goes on, I just feel drained. And just want to do nothing, hence what happened on Saturday. You are very lucky I even got up today to write this blog post. It’s kind of weird, in the one hand I want the weekend to be very productive, on the other, bugger it man, I’m sitting here enjoying the nice weather. What the hell?

We all reach that point I guess where we just want time to really do nothing but enjoy ourselves in our own way and by ourselves. I haven’t seen Nat since Tuesday after the shenanigans after V, of which some of the photos will be online soon but some won’t. The picture quality is awful and therefore, they maybe all a right off. Actually I will ring her up in a bit to see how she is doing….

SOME TIME LATER…

Well I rang her, and she is rather relieved that I am jolly. We’ve caught up of sorts and well might pop aorund later to see how she is. She was being lazy as well as it goes, you see good campers, every once in a while you got to stop and say no.

Enough foul beasts, I will rest before duelling with you again on the battlefield! I am rather jolly as it goes anyway as Mum and Dad haven’t come to visit, seems other things are afoot there, so we’ve had some time to ourselves for a nice change. Well for the rest of the day methinks some more of what went on before is in order. Can’t forget my duties this afternoon in Wrexham for the Radio, and hopefully I won’t get called out.

Actually there is one further point I wish to bring up. When did FaceBook become so popular? It seems to be cool to slate MySpace to buggery now, which granted may not be difficult considering it has become filled with spam profiles all asking you to sign up to this that and the other. I have had quite a few requests through, asking if I was on FaceBook.

As it stands, I am not on FaceBook for the time being, but I have a funny feeling this will change, if only as another way of getting the website known around the world.

As for the plan of sorting things out, well we shall see what exactly I end up doing!!

That’s it for now on this rather long update post. Cheerio campers and enjoy what’s left of the bank holiday!

24: The Kaiser Chiefs

Lord of Leisure Posted on August 23, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureApril 7, 2008

Now the name of the post pretty much gives away what I am doing. Remember what i said on the podcast, if you get a chance to go see them, please do? Well they added an extra date to their short stay at the NIA on Birmingham and well you just have to get tickets. They are about £25 + all the usual extra service charge crap but never the less it’s worth it. They were great at Glastonbury and well why not eh? At present there are about 8 of us going so should be good, the only thing is it’s in November which is a little time away but never mind.

There we are, the little bit of excitement I have to report today. Actually Tuesday and Wednesday felt a wee bit weird. After the Radio Course finished it just leaves a bit of a void as to what to do. Granted I know i can now use the time to:

  • Catch up with my games playing with the uber beast of a PC. Bioshock comes out tomorrow, and being honest I tried the demo last night and the game ran fine at 1900×1200 except again for the stuttering from the on board sound. Well methinks I’ll get the sound blaster after all.
  • Get the design elements and test site with the flash bits and bobs. Been putting it off and off till now.

This is up till the degree starts again in September, which will make me very happy again. oh yes. Woo. My life will be complete. But then I will find other things to do which should be more interesting. That’s the plan anyway, but we’ll see.

Tomorrow I am on call for a week, which should again aid the money coming in, and well there is also another potential source of increased income coming about next week but I’m not putting my eggs into that basket yet, as nothing is certain. The weekend presents an extra day of doing nothing (that’s a lie), it’s the last bank holiday before Christmas and lots of people will be out and about having fun, drinking and doing naughty. Well not me.

Except maybe Monday, because nat, Iggy (Can’t spell his name correctly) and Laura (two friends who Natalie introduced to me a fair while back) in theory will be going to Ironbridge to have a look around. That should be nice, as I haven’t been there since school how many years ago.

Steve and Kristi go away this weekend to Greece on a very nice cruise, and I look forward to hearing all about it after, and also seeing the posing shots by Steve (go to Travelsometimes, and you will see!) Whatever people are doing this weekend, have a good un and take it easy!

    24: Tuesday Briefing

Lord of Leisure Posted on August 21, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureNovember 4, 2010

    Eyes Open

Hello good people, I return from the V Festival, knackered and slightly bemused. I will explain all later but for now, let’s just say V 2007 was different to V 2006. My word, a lot happened, yet nothing much did happen, and so much for so little. My, I’m good at all these riddles, maybe I should start writing for that show, Lost.

Granted I would have had more things make sense than just throwing random things into the plot to keep it going. I bet you the next episode will end up with the cast running from man-eating jam donuts, then having to create a new method of transport to get the ancient stone of Burger King who really made the island to sell more whoppers. Who knows?

It confuses the hell out of people, and being honest I got bored after the first episode. The only good bit was when that guy got sucked into the turbine.

Anyway as usual I digress. After the “excitement” of V, nat and I settled down and had a day off yesterday from the real world before waking up badly into it today, boy I was tired today and well slightly ill-equipped to deal with work.

    24: HOORAY!!!!

Lord of Leisure Posted on August 17, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureAugust 17, 2007

At long last despite sneaking on us at the last minute, the V Festival is here, will set off after packing to pickup Nat and a few provisions before making our way there to stet-up home for the next few nights. Ooh, tickles! And I am also happy as was able to do another podcast, yep, was sneaking that one past everyone wasn’t I? That should keep ye busy till I get back eh?

On a side note, My good friend Glyn has got a new job with more money, fair play at long last fella. Congrats.

And last but not least my nose is running now, so have to go and get a tissue.

Take it easy campers, and I will see you all after V, or during V for some people I’ve spoken to.

Yes I know I said I was going to start at 8, but I couldn’t wait! So all in all business as usual.

I have also added a new feature – A photo gallery.

    This is a trial basically.

So to start with here are the pictures from Glastonbury in Flash Form:
    svgallery=Glastonbury

Other updates will be occuring soon. Stay Tuned Campers!!

(P.S. Bloody Linux has broke again becuase of the graphics. Methinks I should leave it alone till it’s caught up with the shiny 8800GTX that dwells in the evilbeast…)
