it’s better to give…but what?

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 8, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureNovember 4, 2010

Of course it’s the time of year, where we think of others and how much they are going to cost us. We are on course to spend less this Christmas due to costs of just living for a start.

And that’s bad for the economy so that’s why the interest rates were lowered recently meaning that we save about £15 a month if we have a mortgage. Which doesn’t come close to the extra money being paid out by everyone at the moment, but that won’t stop some people thinking; hey we’ve got more money, let’s go and spend!

But the question I have to ask is:

What do you buy?

If you’ve reached the best part of your life, where you moved away from home, got used to doing nothing by yourself and just enjoying your own company, what do you buy for people for Christmas gifts?

A look back on posts past…

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 5, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureNovember 4, 2010

It occurred to me as I lie here waiting in the manor that is the home to the famous Lord of Leisure, that half the time I write things on the blog, and I never follow them up. What happened to statements about things and have they now in fact changed?

Well for once I am going to update on things remarked on earlier.

ADSL and no unlimited naughty post

Well, on this post I had remarked on the fact that it was hard to find a service that had unlimited attached to it and was of a reasonable price, even the more expensive solutions had a cap to it. Well dear readers, I actually found a true unlimited service, with no real restrictions except for newsgroups, which I don’t use anyway and it was with the DSL provider I am with now!

£35 per month for the DSL Max Pro business solution from Nildram, which is more expensive than what I was paying before, but no cap, a static IP, and still 8MB download speed possible (more than likely 6.5MB transfer), with a higher upload speed to narrow ping times slightly, and to boot, the 500 free minutes to landlines every month it seems I’m onto a winner.

Be a hero. Become a legend. Have some cheese.

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 4, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureNovember 4, 2010

The crowd stand before you, the lights are beaming down upon your face. They are drawing you on, more they shout, more. But you’re afraid. Afraid of their wrath in case you start missing the keys. You wonder, can you remember the tune; will you work again after this? Will you rise to fame and fortune, or fall back to the pits from whence you came.

You start thinking back to when you started out in the biz, all the promise that came with it, your fist meeting with that PR guy who smelled a bit like orange peel and actually looks like an orange due to 46,000 hours exposure on a sun bed. He said, in his husky smoke-filled voice, “Stick with me, generic teenager and I’ll make you a star, maybe.”

Sex, lemsip, rocks, and bread rolls, they would all be yours for just a simple song. So play honky, play for the love juice that comes your way.

Failing that, play Guitar Hero 3.

Hmm, looks nice…

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 2, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureDecember 2, 2007

You will have noticed by now that I have changed the look of the website, the alterations have been made to another WordPress theme created by Jide, but there is just the one issue left with this new theme now, the top links for Facebook and MySpace can’t open in a new window like in the old one and so far, I haven’t been able to find the code where you can change that. This may mean I relegate those links to the links bit down below which is finally working after 2 hours searching around for the fix to that.

You see, the database got changed in the newer version of WordPress and the theme didn’t really include the required changes, but hey ho, it’s all done now. Wow, this is a really geeky post. Only one other person I know would be interested in this, never mind.

I just fancied a wee change, and well depending on my mood, the older theme may make a return. Hopefully the theme change won’t slow down the website too much, if you have any comments to make on it, please mail us, or leave a comment or 7.

Oh, I should remark on the fact that I am including far more images on the site in my blog posts than I used to, this was due to people complaining that there was lots of text and no pretty pictures to go with it to break it all up. Well people, ask and ye shall recieve, hope you are all enjoying the rubbish written here and now I’m off to bed. NIGHT!

A solution.

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 2, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureDecember 2, 2007

Witness if you will, a scene where today’s hectic lifestyle no longer affords time to do the things we take for granted, such as shin your shoes, clean the gorillas and pick the dishes. More and more, it appears we have to combine our activites together in order to get everything done. We have to look after ourselves yet find time to enjoy the finer things…

A fine example for all women...

24 Hour Party People

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 1, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureNovember 4, 2010

I’ve been having a pretty good 24 hours right now, since work ended things actually got a lot better. But it has been a sad note, a good friend and work colleague, Mr Paul C has finally headed out the door for the last time to go to the world of contract killing.

I never figured him as the violent type, seeking to kill for those would pay the top pounds and feeling no remorse but these days it’s a growing industry, with Bounty Hunters roaming the globe making sure various individuals breathe no more.

He will be going after one person after it was made apparent a certain someone wanted him taken care off but with no noise about it. Osuna del Lad-mag or someone like that…I’ll remember the name sooner or later.

But before he ran off into the sunset, sniper rifle in tow, the last couple of days have been very sad. Thursday, the day that I wasn’t in, deciding instead to stay in bed and dream of England, everyone wore pink shirts in honour of his dress sense. Not sure about the hats with the tiara, I gave that to someone else as it suited him much more.

And after a particularly bad day, the pub beckoned.

It came in the post yesterday, but I was out, a note was left telling me to pickup the prize. I picked up said prize today. I started having fun. Oh dear….

Come with us now…

Lord of Leisure Posted on November 29, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureNovember 4, 2010

It’s been a bit of a strange week again. Granted Tuesday night provided a more than welcome change from the grind of going to work, going home and then going to work again, but all in all it’s been another time of being run down and actually running out of things to say again. But there has been time to do something else which I hadn’t done but others had told me about.

I watched the Mighty Boosh.

That's them. I think....

For those of you unaware of this thing, it stars Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding as two friends who do bizarre things and go on freaky adventures while making it all look perfectly normal.

Everything is average nowadays…

Lord of Leisure Posted on November 28, 2007 by The Lord of LeisureNovember 4, 2010

He's good. Perhaps too good...Tuesday evening, after partying hard at work, a group of us travelled to the NIA for the second of the month’s gigs, this time around it was to see the Kaiser Chiefs.

If you haven’t been under a rock for the past couple of years, then you will know that these lads from Leeds (which Mr Woodvine set me straight on, ta!) have produced some fine music titles and once again, were one of the artists that performed at Glastonbury earlier this year which of course inspired me (and others who wanted to come along) to go and see them just like Amy W. But regretfully unlike Amy, these were on fire musically.

Blasting out hit after hit such as ‘Everything is average nowadays’ (which became an in-joke between us all because of an average cheesecake sans biscuit-base in Weatherspoons) and ‘I Predict a Riot’, and fair play they kept the crowd entertained. They also previewed three songs from their forthcoming third album, of which ‘You Want History’ and ‘Never Miss A Beat’ were sounding fantastic and I do think those will be the singles from the next album.
