Star Wars: The Internet Awakens and A Post View Meh…(Spoilers)

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 31, 2015 by The Lord of LeisureDecember 31, 2015

It was only a couple of weekends ago that the internet erupted in various aspects as Star Wars finally arrived out on the scene and the hate between everyone once again erupted as everyone wanted to talk about what happened, spoil it all over the place to annoy everyone and of course cash in on producing content based around Star Wars because it’s sort of still topical among people with nothing better to do.

Like we are.

The money making is strong with this one…

So what local things were occurring then to mark the arrival of Disney’s Pay Day? Well, Odeon Cinemas in Leicester square during the weekend were having a changing of the guard. Well, they changed the guys who had to get dressed up in costumes and were paid to stand outside while the music blasted out from speakers on the balcony where movie stars and others stand and wave to the little people below.

One of the actors, John Boyega who was credited with a good performance on this very blog, was wandering around a couple of cinemas round where he used to be from as well saying hello and frightening people it seems because they didn’t expect someone like him to turn up. Perhaps they were actually expecting someone to come back with that large coke they asked.

Since then, it has indeed passed the one billion mark in terms of money for Disney worldwide, and the reviews overall have been quite positive, even with the fact that it’s basically the first Star Wars film done again. The non spoiler type review thingy I posted on Ooh Sometimes just before Christmas was positive overall and I must admit, it was better than I thought it would be, having not been drawn too much into the hyperspace as most others had, given the sheer volume of product placements with Star Wars for food, makeup and mobile phones. Even the likes of Sky and Google have been pushing pre-orders of the film months before it would even arrive on your doorstep or before you downloaded from a torrent site like no one will….

However, there are a number of things which do have to be written down here on this just to get a few things off the hairy man breasts and from here on out after the big picture of a lovely animal eating some carrot, THERE WILL BE MAJOR SPOILERS. Please, if you’ve not seen the film, please close this web page and go and eat pie instead. Or go back to YouPorn and wonder how that woman could take 5 guys…..err……

Site Changes

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 30, 2015 by The Lord of LeisureDecember 30, 2015

Basically we’re going along with the French model of working when it comes to Ooh Sometimes…. Life, eh?

Good day to you campers, just so you’re aware there are some changes to come to the website over the coming weeks and months as we aim to move forward with a new look etc. As such, something may look weird from time to time when certain changes are made. Sadly the test website needs completely trashing to get it back up and working and at the moment, the only working place is the main site, which as you can imagine….is not too clever!

Yes, this does mean the christmas decoration of the website came down before the end of 2015, but you had long enough to enjoy it, back to grey and black, the colour of our souls in this wretched wasteland!

In all honesty the work on Ooh Sometimes has all been way overdue for changing and to add some things to the front page of the site which has been sorely missing like when I post pictures on Twitter of sex toy sales from Hot UK deals. Because that is what everyone needs to know and dammit, we will make sure that no-one misses out on deals for the annotator or whatever they tend to call the bloody things!

We will be after some feedback etc on changes made soon and hopefully we’ll come up with something that everyone likes. For now, take it easy and we will be back soon for some more moaning, ramblings and hopefully some content we can use to blackmail rich people with to pay off the fuzz to make them look the other way when we’re doing naughty in Tescos.

The Christmas Message 2015

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 25, 2015 by The Lord of LeisureDecember 23, 2015

Tree’s back up again, and this time I’m smiling!

Once again, it’s the 25th of December and that means it’s time to write another Christmas message for 2015, after last year’s message about not bothering about the day itself, and perhaps some more reasons that perhaps why it’s not exactly the most wonderful time of the year.

As before, this will be an auto-publish job on the web site, so I’ll not be around when it goes live. As a prompter for this year’s message, I actually went back to 2014’s little blog post, just to see what it was I just to write that year. It turns out it was the type of post which made you want to ring the Samaritans Hotline just to ask what the guy on the other end is wearing and if he thought you were pretty. I suppose I should actually say sorry for that!

In the eyes of so many, it will be sad to be thinking this sort of thing at this time of year all the time, that basically every December and Christmas rolls around and then you just get into a funk about the whole thing. I suppose it will be different this year as I’m splitting time between different people which I’ve not done in years and is a relatively new experience. Not sure if it will help matters or just further drive me to despise the forced nature of the season.

And as for the festive songs, it seems to be getting worse. As an example, there were carol singers on the local news singing Silent Night and I tell you what, it just made me so utterly depressed. Why? The damn thing is so downtrodden and slow, it’s almost taking the piss by ensuring that if you were feeling blue, then it’s the singing equivalent of kicking you in the f*cking teeth. Seriously, this is supposed to get people in the Christmas spirit?

This is the reason why year after year, Die Hard gets put on the TV, at least Bruce Willis puts some effort in when he’s messing with Alan Rickman and brings cheer to hostages.

Ho Ho Ho Mother lovers!

But of course, I’m again going back to a downward spiral which will not be helping matters and in many respects, I’m fully aware these are first world problems. There are always many people far worse off, in dire situations and this time of year will just amplify those problems. There are also lots of people who would kill to be in the same shoes as I currently am, and so I should be grateful to being able to articulate and write complete sh*te on the internet as freely as I do.

It’s rather interesting though that a number of people have expressed to me the mehness of the Christmas period because of visitations etc that have to be made, chores, the spending of vast quantities of cash etc. so perhaps more and more it’s not just me that may wish to rebel against the status quo, simply for the feelings it seems to bring up?

You also can’t help of everything else that happened over the year, and that normally more comes up as New Year’s eve approaches where you talk with others about what went on and start planning ahead for what to do for the next year.

Bloody hell, I’m really not good at raising the roof on your mood, am I?

But of course, right now, it is some time off which for some is much needed, and we all know that it’s “new year” soon where the exact same crap begins all over again, so let’s just have a nap where we can and bite your arm in an attempt to wander aimlessly from one thing to the next. After all, in the Gaming Car Crash Christmas Special, I do wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, so hell, just make the best of the situation whatever you’re having.

Enjoy the eating too much, enjoy the repeats of the same stories you heard last year about the time Uncle Ted fell off the donkey at the seaside and of course enjoy the getting of things you didn’t actually want or need. Enjoy the fact that people turned up at all, enjoy the solitude if you wanted it, enjoy having something decent to watch on Freeview for a change, and most of all, enjoy being content.

Once again, Merry Christmas you filthy b*stards, and we will see you in the new year with yet more of the same bullsh*t!

The Gaming Car Crash Christmas Special!

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 23, 2015 by The Lord of LeisureDecember 23, 2015

It’s the season to be meh by all accounts, the days are short, you’ve overspent on stuff, you’re stuck with the extended family arguing over who gets to change Uncle Jimmy’s underwear and you’ve heard “I wish it could be christmas” so many times your ears will be bleeding.

Well if you’re truly wanting to get away from it all, you could do worse than watching the second of the recent Hearthstone special videos to be created, this time with a christmas deck in place where the theme of giving gifts and receiving is on full display for all to enjoy. This will be the last video put out for 2015 so hell let’s go out with a bang, or failing that a smile on our grey little faces as we aim to bring christmas cheer to all those playing a silly card game at Christmas time!

As usual, feel free to leave comments about the video, even if it was to say this latest hat doesn’t suit me (did you at least like the tinsel?) and whether or not I still get too over excited when it comes to playing Hearthstone!

Star Wars: The Review Unspoiled….

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 21, 2015 by The Lord of LeisureDecember 21, 2015

As it’s time for the inevitable talk about the new Star Wars it’s rather a hard thing to do in written form for the most part.

A lot of sites have either kept to very generic reviews to not reveal anything or say up front or they have stated very clearly that what content they are putting out there is full of spoilers and therefore unless you’ve seen the film, you’re advised to steer clear of it. In essence this is one of those few films that unlike where the Oscar bait films that were written about at the beginning of the year, this is one where you know what, we’re going to do things a little differently.

It’s got pew pew and laser swords!

You see, I’m not going to be a complete pr*ck here unlike others on the internet, the post instead more generalised about events and plot within the film, and then in a separate post, underneath a giant picture, we will then proceed into the spoiler content where some of the real meat can be chewed on. There will be some areas remarked on, but they should still be non specific enough not to be the internet fire of hate down upon us….We hope.

For the twelve people who never have heard of the franchise, Star Wars takes place in a galaxy far far away as it reminds us in every film so far, and revolves around an epic battle between good and evil, with some extra special types who use powers from something called the Force, where again both good and bad has to exist it appears and be in never-ending conflict. Never-ending perhaps as long as Disney needs the cash to buy everything else in existence.

It provided us with some iconic characters, some epic battles, some touching moments, some truly awful dialogue, some clunky story telling and a character that pretty much everyone agreed should have never been brought to the big screen ever and perhaps even now will be rotting in the film vaults of hell, in the form of Jar Jar Binks. Coming soon to a cinema near you….Trailer Time!

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 15, 2015 by The Lord of LeisureDecember 15, 2015

It seems that despite the fact that Star Wars Episode 7: Disney is about to own you all is coming out on Thursday this week, a few of the other studios decided to release trailers for their own efforts due out next year.

Hey Macarena!

Basically if Star Wars Episode 7 doesn’t get over a billion pounds/dollars/whatever on opening week, regardless of how good or bad or perhaps middling, it would be astonishing. In essence, one may wonder why any other film would bother turning up at the box office until the Oscar Bait season kicks off in January where the new quest for “shiny shiny” can begin. Rest assured, you can expect at least three true stories and people shouting at each other to create supposed drama all over again.

Given that it’s been a while since we spent time at the cinema on this lovely old blog, it’s about time I sat down and watched a number of the big trailers that have hit the internet of recent times, and give a meh piece about each one, just judging purely from the trailers themselves.

The only thing about this list however, is that there is a ridiculous number of comic book movies and big budget sci-fi hitting the screens across the world very soon and to be honest, a lot of the trailers seem to have been put together by the same person as a lot of the same things happen in them, explosions, dramatic music and soundbites, all hoping to leave you in a puddle of your own wee while getting overly excited.

It seems that we just cannot get enough of super heroes and villains pantomiming their way across the big screen but the big question actually after you see some of the list below is; are we now getting too much of one thing again? And if so, what’s going to be the first big flop? We start off things by watching the released after it was leaked anyway trailer;

Star Trek: Beyond (a joke)

Upon the first watch of this, it becomes blindly obvious that the old Star Trek everyone knew about is long dead. Welcome to what some on the internet have called “The Trek and the Furious” after this trailer released after getting leaked ahead of being shown before Star Wars by all accounts. Having been tasked with making Star Trek accessible for all, this is the first glimpse into what Simon Pegg, aka the bloke who can’t do Scottish accents that well, and some other bloke called Doug Jung has in store for us.

Pretty much it seems that the Enterprise is royally fu*ked like the last third Star Trek film with Kirk but this time it’s not at the hands of the Klingons, but at some mystery race who basically all suicide themselves into the beleaguered star-ship before the set-up for high speed high octane action starring everyone else who isn’t Vin Diesel. It even has JJ Abrams and the director credited with Fast and Furious, Justin Lin name checked with a lovely background to make sure it’s not just anyone making the bloody thing!

Running under the Beastie Boys, in fact the same song that showed up in the first film back in 2009, the trailer gives us a motorbike stunt, fighting, explosions aplenty and a decent set-up gag with Spock and Karl Urban who seems to always play Dr McCoy excellently. There also appears to be even less lens flare to blind us all with, which is a step in the right direction.

However, as much as I may be a fan of Star Trek and actually the first one was reviewed on this very blog some time ago to the conclusion of making Star Trek cool, I must admit, this didn’t really get me excited at all, save for McCoy of all characters.

In fact it made me wander off for a cup of tea instead. If the trailer is to be an indication of where they want to go, I think it’s best to switch the brain off for this one and just take it as it is to be a brainless ride to then forget about because the real Fast and Furious 8 will actually be out then.

I hope I’m proven wrong and in fact this trailer actually served to hide a lot more depth.

Co-optional Brawling

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 11, 2015 by The Lord of LeisureDecember 11, 2015

Hello there dear campers, now then, do you remember back in the day when I was intent on doing live streams for your dining and dancing pleasure, often while drinking and talking complete crap? Well get ready to relive one of the more recent Hearthstone brawls, which in fact was the very first co-op brawl where you and a happy go lucky scamp went up against the naughty robot dude known as Mechazod! All hail the mighty Mechazod as at times, he was bloody hard to kill, considering that if either of you died, you both failed.

Well now, sit back and relax as you get to enjoy once again and remember all the horrors of that fateful november night here and then wonder when the next Tavern Brawl with co-op play will come as all in all, it was wonderful stuff and I can only hope more comes from Blizzard in the same fashion;

4th Nov 2015: Unite Against Mechazod!

As for when the next livestream or indeed any video content will be forthcoming, that is entirely dependant on my workload and schedule in the lead up to the most blasted time of the year that is Christmas and the New Year shenanigans of course, but we will see what we can do. Cheerio!

Broadband: The quest for answers

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 8, 2015 by The Lord of LeisureDecember 8, 2015

Given that in recent weeks there has been things so foul and horrible coming up in the mainstream media, it’s nice to write about something which is completely missing the point of it all and instead smell badly of first world problems. But then again, most people wouldn’t want to read yet more from a rambling buffoon about the state of the world and some of the people in it.

Donald Trump. And Donald Trump’s Hair, which probably has yet to annoy the world as much as he does.

Then again, Donald Trump today came out wanting to ban all Muslims from America in an attempt to look even more brain damaged than he already appears to be, so I guess there is a place for rambling buffoons after all. This is probably where I get sued for defamation, but hell there has to be more than enough evidence to back up that statement by now surely? Continue reading →

Well hello there darlings….

Lord of Leisure Posted on December 6, 2015 by The Lord of LeisureDecember 6, 2015

Got the decorations up…..

Season Greetings to everyone who happens upon the Ooh Sometimes web site and once again, it’s been several weeks since any update about what’s going on in funky town. In fact the last time anything came up on here, we were lamenting the lack of fibre broadband in the wilderness of Shepherds Bush as opposed to anything else which people may think is important.

Well there’s only so much time you can waste playing with your belly button and it helps to have a first world annoyance to really get your teeth into, between the twelve beer you’re trying to keep balanced on your belly.

So what’s been going on then for me to again vanish from the internet for a long period of time and not even spend each Wednesday live-streaming a card game as I had been doing until recently. Well, consider this post to be something which will give a round up of the type of things personal and more localised than world events which have shocked and scared a lot of people.

I will leave those type of things to the likes of the Daily Mail where they can complain about immigrants stealing jobs and your wives, money and baked beans. Continue reading →
