It’s been just over a week since Solo: A Star Wars Story opened in the UK at the time of writing. Among the various mutterings about the place, it appears that the film is going to crash out badly at the box office, not even potentially making back the money splashed on its production to begin with.
It’s not the best way to start any mini meh is it? Though for recent Star Wars films, it’s slowly becoming the norm. Let us remember the Last Jedi for starters; It did well at the box office but was massively divisive as to whether or not people thought it was good to begin with. There even now are various fanboys out there demanding the head of the Star Wars machine Kathleen Kennedy for ruining their childhoods or whatever. It’s not come from nowhere as it seems that directors have been shed during various productions at the hands of Kennedy for one reason or another. Such is the case with Solo: A Star Wars Story too.
Having lost the directors behind the Lego Movie, Ron Howard came on at short notice. There was worry over the main actor Alden Ehrenreich wearing Harrison Ford’s epic boots as Han Solo. As a final insult to injury, this film has been viewed as a wholly unnecessary cash-in which is the current box office trend of the past week or so has indicated, may back back as a loss for the Disney overlords, a first is quite a while in fact. As featured across the Internet recently, John Bain aka TotalBiscuit who created various things such as WTF is…. a massively successful first impressions series, was a massive regular in the world of Starcraft and starring on the Co-Optional Podcast with Jessie Cox and Dodger has sadly passed away, losing his battle with bowel cancer. He is survived by wife Gemma who left such a lovely poem with the news on Twitter and son.
After I saw the news on Friday morning, it rather hit me for 6 in a rather thought provoking way. I then pretty much kept myself to myself save for a few WhatsApp messages to people through the day, where I wandered around the MCM Comic Con. In a way, didn’t seem right to just carry on as normal. Then it came to today and while doing other things around the flat, I felt compelled to take the time to write a brief something about what John Bain inspired in myself to do with all the free time I wasted previously.
Despite what other people will always remember, to me, It was his series about Hearthstone that actually prompted myself to get off my arse and then sit back on my arse to make various videos. Even so much as continue on with the live streams that I still occasionally do to this very day (less than I should really) and I can only pail in comparison to the enjoyment he gave me watching him triumph and meh out to the card game even now.
The playlist of his Hearthstone content is still here and I can only strongly urge you to sit back and enjoy all the hours of fun he made, just on Hearthstone alone. There are truly some terrific games and commentary throughout;
Although he didn’t have the love he once did for the game, it did inspire me to do it too and in essence sort of carry it on in my own small tiny-minded way.
It’s of course, only one aspect to the man himself as his body of work critiquing the games as well as the industry is immense.
There’s a lot of games that I would have never even seen had it not been for him bringing them to our collective attention. He certainly was a man sure of himself by how he conducted himself at all times and how he thought about the relationship between himself and others. He was principled to a fault, of course there have been people who have had quite public spats with the man over various things which occurred which always seems to happen when it comes to a difference of opinion.
There may have been times you disagree with what he did at times, but hot damn, none of that changes the fact he was good at what he did. At least in my and many others minds. He had a certain way of explaining himself clearly and with good reason why he thought about things such as crappy developers taking the piss, through to the strange way we both loved and hated Mad Max the game, to of course Loot Boxes. His “WTF is” series will remain a guide on how to do proper long form reviews on YouTube for ages. They were engaging, detailed and of course actually PC gaming centric, which was always a big bonus for me.
I never met the man and I will always be sad that I never will get that chance. I suspect that had I done so, I would have fanboy-ed hard and made myself look even more like the village idiot than I am usually. You see, I am and always will be a fan of his work and he will be sorely missed in the gaming world.
When Call of Duty Black Ops 4 was announced and discussed, the aftermath of it was, I was not chuffed. I’d always been a fan of the single player portion and they took it away. So before messing around with cards in Hearthstone on this occasion, I felt it warranted to meh about the lack of Call of Duty Single Player…. then I lost at cards!
Happy Friday everyone!

Just in time for the Bank holiday weekend again in the UK, we have the latest money maker from Disney and Lucasarts, Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Showing how the loveable rogue came to be, along with how he met Chewbacca and Lando, this film really didn’t have a good record during production. But does that mean that Solo will crash instead of flying high once again in the Millennium Falcon?
Here’s my initial thoughts after stepping out from watching it, with a full mini meh to come. May the meme be with you and whatever!

Ok, I admit it, I wish I was in the film. Even if it was just getting a wet willy….. Phrasing!
Full disclosure here, I am a big fan of the pool. So much so of course that I went out of my way to get a t-shirt with Deadpool riding a bear against an explosion to wear during opening night of Deadpool 2 debuting in the UK. The advertising campaign for the sequel had been even better than the first, including a brilliant “sorry” to David Beckham so it’s easy to say I couldn’t wait to watch the film.
Therefore of course you should take everything I say here with a pinch of salt.
But the sad fact is, that the sequel to the wonderfully put together entertaining original film starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth is….. Not as good as the first film. Sorry campers but it’s true despite everything we wish for. It’s the fall of society as we know it, the world will burn and there are no more Chimichangas. But wait, there’s more!
I enjoyed the film a lot. Huh? How does that work? Is this the obvious fanboy coming out? Perhaps but join me on this journey about Family, Death, Life, Death, More Life and a bit more death….. then you will see what I am talking about, and thus the fog of anger will lift. For about three seconds before you all come back baying for my blood.
For those of you who have not seen the first film, you will for sure need to go watch that first before coming to this as it will not be too friendly to those wandering into the whole thing without any context of the events beforehand. We find Deadpool happily enjoying his life as a hired killer, dealing with various naughty people to the tune of Dolly Parton’s 9-to-5. He’s living with his squeeze Vanessa (the very sexy Morena Baccarin) till something occurs which kind of sets the scene for the rest of the film as a plot point. Continue reading →
It’s fair to say I have been looking forward to the sequel of the wonderful Deadpool film with Ryan Reynolds and the majority of the original cast being back with new faces. Josh Brolin not content with being one Marvel character, turns up as a time traveller hell bent on doing that kid from Hunt for the Wilderpeople in. Will he succeed? Also more importantly, can I get a cameo in Deadpool 3? Also, can there be a Deadpool 3? Let’s find out! This was a bit of a trial and error on this livestream. Trying to do a livestream from the sofa when not being able to see the chat window is shall we say, not the best idea.
But there was a reason why I wanted to sit back and relax on this one; I had a Raging need to dispense some Justice! Raging Justice finally came out on PC, Xbox and PS4 for a really well priced sum of £8.99. But the big question was, was it worth the wait? Well just watch the unedited livestream here and find out!
Also, watch me lose my shit by not understanding how to knock bad guys off bikes and then just want to murder everyone on a tractor. True story…..

Given the huge amount of praise being heaped on Avengers: Infinity War right now, it’s all too easy now to forget there is another player in town. Well, sort of. Let’s be honest; at the moment, DC and Warner Bros’ collective workforces are sobbing into their pillows every night right now. They tried to kick start their own universe of comic book films at a vastly accelerated pace to cash in on what Marvel had spent a lot of time creating.
They f**ked it up.
They tried to catch up so fast that there are moments where it’s all too easy to get lost with what’s going on and frankly, the tone change with the DC universe brought about by Zack Snyder put a lot of people off. But is the series beyond redemption?
The last entry of the DC Universe was the rapid introduction of the Justice League, featuring Batman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Aquaman. It didn’t fare as expected at the Box Office, pulling in less than the first Man of Steel film did in 2013. Critics pretty much lambasted it, and the much publicised meh behind the scenes wouldn’t help matters. Let’s be fair, if it was a case of everyone filling out their contractual obligations to ensure they didn’t get sued by walking away, you wouldn’t blame them. Continue reading →
A million fanboys cried out in terror and were suddenly …. well, not silenced, let’s put it that way.
Given the recent yearly “May the Fourth be with you” jokes etc against one of the world’s most legendary movie series now owned by the evil Takazuki Corp. (formerly known as Disney), and the recent release of the Last Jedi on shiny disc, it’s about time we take a look at a film which basically fractured the fanboys of Star Wars and unleashed a torrent of meh upon YouTube and Reddit.
With a box office performance of over $1.3 billion, 4 Oscar bait nominations with even more awards perhaps being thrown its way, why has the Last Jedi actually annoyed so many people as well as delighted so many? The question then follows; Was I along with all others all wrong about it after all?
Let’s be clear, during the Last Jedi Aftermath video recorded directly after watching it the first time, I put down all my chips on being so happy that in essence, instead of being a copy and paste job which was a lot of what Episode 7: The Force Awakens turned out to be, they tried something new. The Last Jedi was f**king fantastic. But now the dust has mostly settled, the hype died down and it’s best to see now whether or not the praise was deserved. Continue reading →
What better way to spend a gloriously sunny Saturday Afternoon in London than in your front room playing a card game? Well that was certainly my thoughts as we embarked on the Hearthstone Happy Hour: May Bank Holiday Edition!
In this unedited livestream video, we lose in a pay to win Tavern Brawl which makes me miserable, win and lose with a deck designed to Inner fire the rage other people feel and of course, we also hunt alone with an all spell hunter deck.
Enjoy! The video can be viewed here also directly if the above doesn’t work; https://youtu.be/k35H049jWpw
