An updated meh about….. Best F(r)iends: Part One
In a way, you may think with the glut of content about two certain chaps in London right now, you’d think I was getting paid for this. But believe me, that’s not the case! Come on, You know there was no way I was going to leave a night of fun with Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero without remarking on changes from the last time I watched their new epic “dramedy”, Best F(r)iends. I suppose “Dramedy” is the best way to describe the film now given the mixture of changes made.
Of course, I know I gave remarks on already last year and for those who missed it before, you can click here; https://lordofleisure.com/2017/11/a-mini-meh-in-progress-about-best-friends/ to head back and see what I said at the time. So in a rare, strange sort of way, this first ever updated meh will not go over a lot of the old ground, just things I noticed in general from this latest cut in February 2018.
The film still of course about the curious plot to sell gold teeth from dead people for cash, with the lies, treachery and deceit that you cannot just laugh at. But here’s something you won’t have expected; it’s gotten better. Yep, the latest cut of Best F(r)iends actually had a better flow to it than last year’s cut. In essence was more comical than before at the beginning of the film where it was sort of weird and plodding to begin with. The scenes made a bit more sense in progression, and there was more of a cinematic score added to proceedings, though of course, they still won’t be able to afford any songs by the Rolling Stones when needed. Come on Mick, they deserve one of your classics in this!
There were still some strange happenings, where there seemed to be some really bizarre rapid editing which if you blinked, you may be wondering if you were having a stroke just then before it carries on and there was a hilarious WTF moment, when a massive “File Not Found” warning came up on screen for no reason then the film carried on. Clearly a mistake in editing but I’ll be damned if it didn’t gave us all a laugh all the same. Some cuts were made it seems during the montage sequence in the middle where the music that made my ears bleed before kicked in and it was much better, and even that bleep bloop bleeping wasn’t as meh this time around.
So only a slight nose bleed then…..
I appreciated the back story of Tommy’s chracter coming into this to explain some of his behaviour which certainly wasn’t present before and iot doesn’t mean the film is any less stranger but in a way, it does show there are reasons behind the silliness. Best F(r)iends may require one or two more edit sessions to cut down a bit more of the rubbish which slows the pace of the film down at times and of course maybe another scene here and I really do wonder what will replace the file not found!
But this cut of Best F(r)iends was a good improvement and given the 2nd part will be showing in London September of this year, provided Donald Trump hasn’t killed us all, I certainly will report back on Part 2 right here for your dining and dancing pleasure!
P.S. Greg, Thank you for the kind words and I’m glad I could give you a laugh with my waffle!
