A mini meh about…. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet? So have you watched it yet?
No?
Go watch it.
You’re still here? Why? What do you mean you expect to actually hear about the sequel to the most unexpected comic series to surface on the big screen from Marvel Studios? You want to know if the soundtrack was as good if not better? Sigh, alright then, I’ll go through the motions of telling you all about it then. But you promise to see afterwards right? Good.
From the get go there’s a good set-up with Kurt Russell (whose looked so young, you can’t tell the work that was done and that’s scary!). He’s happy with Peter’s mother and that it appears is how the two parents of Starlord met. Peter Quill (once again happily played by Chris Pratt) and everyone else does come back in this and you know the band’s back together when they are getting ready on a rooftop somewhere in the galaxy just with the stupid banter.
Now with Baby Groot, there are many aspects which are even better. Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) is so adorable that by the end of the film’s opening sequence, you know you will be heading to the nearest Disney to buy one, it’s just a license to print even more cash. Just that by itself was so well done, that well you just have to see for yourself because it’s just so out there. The story, such as it is begins with the Guardians saving some fancy batteries for some gold painted people. Peter tries it on with the Queen but then tries to save face in front of green beauty Gamora (again played By Zoe Saldana) and meanwhile Rocket steals the batteries they were just saving anyway.
Cue a great chase scene by drones flown in a giant arcade by the gold people. There’s plenty of bickering, along with great comedy from Drax (Dave Bautista) and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and then our heroes sort of, crash on a planet, where Peter’s Dad, Kurt Russell (whose name is Ego…. no superiority complex there then) just turns up and says come to my planet. Yep, alright, I’ll go with it! Turns out Kurt Russell lives on a planet furnished with the style of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” as you rarely see some much damned colour in film these days!
Meanwhile Yondu is facing meh with his crew after being banished by Sylvester Stallone from the Ravagers (the group they apparently all were a part of?) for doing naughty things and let’s just say that it gets worse for him from then on out given his crew aren’t happy.
There is a theme throughout the film and it’s family for sure. There’s also a great deal of chracter development in this film which somehow doesn’t outstay its welcome either. The pacing is great, the comedy is fantastic and the Stan Lee Cameo, well just comes out of nowhere and yet, just awesome! The revenge with Nebula (Karen Gillan) as well is not without it’s great moments and the climax has some great fighting and just well… again just see for yourself the video game reference. All I’m saying there.
There’s some parts which do fall down though as it does get ridiculous at times, even for the crazy setting we’re pulled into with this film and there’s a cameo that when it arrives, is just insane. But in a wonderful way as it’s tied into a line uttered by Gamora to Quill in private.
What more can I say? Left the cinema with a big smile, and wanting to see it again. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is just a big piece of entertainment where I fail to see how no-one could not enjoy it. A very well done film to add to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and given the line-up for the rest of the year, includes SpiderMan Homecoming and the just amazing-looking Thor Ragnarok, it’s hard to see how the quality can dip for the remaining films for 2017 as far as Marvel goes.
Put it this way, Wonder Woman is due from the DC / Warner Bros studios in June, and I will be amazed if they come close to this at all.
Ok, now go see the damn Guardians film!
