Rapidos Y Furisosos 7
WARNING: This post contains gushings about Jason Statham because he’s in this film. And he’s awesome. So there.
In the second film to come onto Ooh Sometimes which involves lots of hot car action in recent days, this one was one that had a lot more invested to bringing to the big screen, given what happened during the production to one of it’s major stars.
Since it’s release, it went onto to make a ridiculous amount of money at the box office, which considering how long this has been going on for and what it’s actually all about, is just insane. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time we find out all about Rapidos Y Furisosos 7, with spoilers about the previous 6 instalments but then again, this is a series and you do need to watch the previous lot for it to make sense anyway.
So now, after 6 previous films which started to tie into each other a lot more, what would the 7th bring us in terms of story to justify some way over the top car scenes where the laws of physics go out the window and probably there will be another 700 mile long runway for the bad guys to land on like in Fast and Furious 6?
Well as you can imagine, 7 just carries on straight after the events of the previous film, where we had already lost two of the characters previously to one of them falling off a car, to the other being rammed on the road in the streets of Tokyo. We begin with Luke Evans showing up ever so briefly in a London Hospital not really doing that much given he was done in, except still alive and not dead as we thought.
His brother Deckard Shaw turns up (Oh yeah, we got Metal Gear Nipples that is the actor Jason Statham turning up proper now) and gets jolly annoyed. While leaving a couple of elite police teams dead on the floor of the hospital Luke is lying down in. Bless.
He causes the death of a guy in Tokyo and basically vows revenge and sets out to send Dom (Vin Diesel, who is Groot), Brian (Paul Walker) and all the other people to the big drag race with big boobed ladies in the sky. With a house blowing up.
Thus the stage is set for some epic fights, car chases and more shit that will blow up. But the team after also having to now play nice with not only Dwayne Johnson, reprising his excellent role from the previous 2 films but now also Kurt Russell who heads up this film’s version of SHIELD I think.
Plot wise, there is more lies treachery and deceit being thrown into the mix because of some evil computer key which hacks everything in the world ever and thus lets you find everyone, and Kurt wants it out of naughty hands.
Thus the elite team of rich drivers wander around the world, but also having to be mindful that Jason “Harder than everyone alive or dead” Statham is hunting them down like the bastard dogs they are probably.
To be honest, the plot hadn’t really needed to be anything more than an excuse for the stunts and escape from reality that Fast and Furious became quite some time ago when it left a lot of the street racing crap behind and became far more interesting. The set-pieces which will have your interest the most will be the fight sequences, between Dwayne “Rock” Johnson, Jason “Balls made of wolverine’s dead body” Statham and of course, Groot, err I mean Vin Diesel.
In both the pay-per-view events between Statham and Diesel, it just smells of testosterone just being sprayed all over, possibly doing naughty on floor in the process.
F*ck it, they face off each other both major time with crashing cars head-on into one another, before exiting in a way that can only be described as growling with body movement, cricking the necks then beating the b*llocks out of each other with fists and whatever else happens to be near by.
The fight between the Rock and Statham too, is just so bad-ass leaving pure destruction behind, and poor old Dwayne ends up knackered for a lot of the film which sadly means you don’t see him a lot of the time.
But when he comes back, he comes back big and armed with a mini-gun.
This kind of shows that the Rock’s absence from the team’s fun through the world was then even more felt by the impact he had himself during the limited screen time he did have, and since Dwayne’s introduction in Fast 5, he just added so much to the series, that I can only implore the creative team to bring him back more in the next instalment… oh and Jason too. Bring him back too, possibly to kick ass alongside the Rock. F*ck it, make a duo cop film with those two, it will be big….err. anyway….
Of course after beating the crap out of the Rock, you just wonder if anyone will stop Jason at all. Well of course they will but bloody hell, it’s good fun watching it happen anyway.
The many car stunts and scenes are just sheer pleasure in metal form, with one piece of watching a £2.3. million car being driven between three huge skyscrapers in Abu Dhabi, just leaving you in sheer disbelief but happy you got to see something so f*cking ridiculous in the first place.
I suppose the one thing which sadly would need to be fully addressed was how they were going to deal with the issue of Paul Walker and the rather messed up ironic death that befell him during the production of the film, which of course halted all work for quite some time. His brothers of course assisted with providing the finishing touches, and the parts where they did have to use them are very well done to the point you don’t really notice a huge amount.
The music they choose to use during a sequence where you see Paul’s character Brian progress through the series was rather a sad but really lovely way to remember one of their own. In something like Fast and Furious, it wouldn’t be something you would have expected to see, but nevertheless, it was upbeat yet you couldn’t escape the sadness, especially when the words “For Paul….” was displayed on screen. To those who worked together on this, well done.
So after all that, it will again boil down to the single question of if the film is worth watching; To the fans of the series, of course it is, there is no question of that at all.
To those who may not have too much of a clue about whether or not they would enjoy this; I actually would argue go back and watch Fast & Furious (the fourth one which came out back in 2009, not the first one which is bloody confusing just by missing “The” in the title) and then see if you like what you saw. If you did, proceed then to watch the rest in sequence and then you won’t be disappointed that you did.
And perhaps in a rare way to end a rambling on a film, we link to the YouTube video showing the song which gives Paul Walker a send off into the sunset, a potent final way to remember someone by for sure;
