24: Remember November. For no-one else will…
Forgive the title but it struck me as though most people will get things that happen. and they forget entire months at a time. Just a thought for a minute.
Well campers tis the end of yet another week and so far it is been very mixed really. Two fantastic days and the rest has been pap. Well in terms of the work that has been going on, a project has come to ahead as they say. People are panicking left right and center, tons of things are remaining to do and being perfectly honest, the position I am in, well a fantastic one. This is because for this week: I am the person telling people what needs to be done. It’s a bizarre feeling. A lowly peon telling the management what I need to have happen.
It doesn’t happen that often when for once, your opinion matters and everything you do counts. But when it happens you can’t help, despite all that is happening, feel fantastic. The workload is huge but it is still a strange and good feeling. The Uni work continues abated, never ending though on the plus side I get another two study days off for the work. It’s all working out. Can’t believe it, it seems that when you ask for more time, albeit on a blog, you get it! Someone’s watching over me, or reading this anyway.
The book has not had any additions done to it yet, as this week Uni has had to take over really, but after chatting with a couple of people, first Steve then Nat, it appears that the direction I am going in for it, is not really a good one, as one instance of course, naming people can cause all sorts of problems. In the blog world that is fine, no-one really cares, but for this, because I have been referring to people I know and talking about when it comes to instances that have happened in the past which shaped things now and what is to come, I have held back and the stories within it so far, are incomplete as I have left quite a lot out for fear to certain individuals wanting to come and kill me. Well, them wanting to kill me slightly more than usual any way.
Hence the direction is changing with a new premise. Semi-Biographical on an average year with creative license for many of the events to make it more interesting. I will be drawing on my own life for references to things that happened and it will still be a platform for opinions, however it is no longer about me. Say hello to Alec Colburn.
“Despite the slightly cool-sounding but ultimately crap name, Alec has been living on this merry earth around 24 years of his life. In that time he has seen and been a part of much. Family struggles, who doesn’t have those? There have been events which have shaped his very personality, and he is far more cynical than he ever cares to admit as a result. His Vendettas are hard to forget and opinions hard to change.
How you are wondering I bet, I came to know him? I met him one night in a pub, just sitting there alone with a look on his face which suggest a person who has weathered through much and yet still had far more to do. Stood out like a sore thumb. As I had nothing to do that evening apart from drink myself stupid, I sat down and started to speak about some random topic, and as it went it turned this man had much to say about many things about the aspects of modern life in this corner of the globe, with all the good times and the bad that comes with it. At first you think, oh yeah, blah blah. But the way he talked, it was something quite unexpected. I began listening. Here’s what he had to say….”
Sounds like a cool opener doesn’t it? Well alright, it sounds like a load of bollocks but for an initial draft I wouldn’t say it’s bad. You lot can though. So by all means, tell me if that sounds like a load of poo. The book will get rewritten with what has been produced so far, with some other stories being introduced and others going into more detail that will get a review by selected people before approaching an agent or directly a publisher. Sounds serious doesn’t it? 🙂
Last week saw two good things happen. One, Thunder in Wolverhampton and Two, Night with the lady friend and the Casino Royale.
Now for starters as I said before I have never heard of Thunder until Steve asked about this, and well, what can I say? The last time I went to anything Rocky, was when I went to Rock Kitchen with Glyn in Manchester, where my memory fades a bit, but I remember shoulders hurting as a result of bashing into Glyn “Mosh Pit” style, kissing a girl who was involved with someone who had gone to the toilet, Whoops there, A guy who was dancing around in Bermuda shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, first on his bill in the middle of the room and then around the stage with the band that was playing. Also some random talking to people on the bus home, and some throwing up was involved. Can’t really remember that much else being honest. But naturally the man of the world that I am, after Steve kindly asked, I was ready for another go.
We met up in Telford, after getting changed, and proceeded to Wolverhampton, all the while, I was completely lost in the conversation, as the fans kept talking about Thunder in various ways, you know you get that feeling of all you can do is just say, yeah. No matter how you try to join in sometimes, you are just better off saying nothing. Which for me, is very hard to do, as most people will tell you! We had a drink and a natter at the little civic, which lives up it’s name quite well, and no-one could be arsed about the opening act, as they were nobodys. Fair enough!
When we went in however it was a different story, we stepped into a rock rest home. I have never seen so many old men and women (both with beards) in one place for music! I was a bit sceptical as you normally would be but never mind. There were only two lovely ladies which stood out, and one of those were on the door coming in! The other was halfway through the concert, when this woman was bouncing on someone’s shoulders with the leather leaving nothing to the imagination. Hmm, it was a very nice view to be sure!!
Now then as for Thunder, they are getting on a bit. It has to be said. But the way they were on stage, you wouldn’t think it. They really gave it their all, and being fair it was fantastic music too. A mix of the rock from the 80’s and early 90’s with only a couple of slow songs to calm down with. The lead singer, who I have know idea who he is called, can really belt out his voice! The red guitar player always looked like he was having sex with his instrument (don’t we all?) and even the drummer had to be applauded, Harry. Who I only know the name of as everyone in the place was shouting his name as he came from behind the drums and played one song on the guitar while the others watched. (Thought his name was Larry) He can sing as well! Haven’t a clue and all the music, except for one song, which I swear blind someone else did.
So all in all, not quite a Thunder fan, but I will be giving them more time on the ol’ IPOD. Cheers Steve, and count me in for the next one too!
Wednesday, was Natalie Night. Actually that sounds good. Natalie Night, could be a catchy title there. Anyhoo, we set off from Acton Pigout or whatever and found that when we got there, all the showings till 9:30 were taken. Maybe this bond film is popular? NAH! Must just be me. With a couple of hours to kill, we went for a Chinese and a drink in the pub across the road. During the meal, the Happy birthday song was being played for all those lucky people who were there to celebrate. Lost bloody count how many times that went on, I swear, the staff are going to break and one day, they are just going to flip and shove the chopsticks in very nasty places. I’ve seen the films, I know what happens!
It was also at this time that Natalie has a few hidden talents which possibly aid in surviving in this harsh world of ours such as the ability to put together a Kalashnikov rifle. It turns out during the late years of the Soviet Union, women were made to learn how to assemble guns and walk around in hot pants and kinky boots. Tell me where this is bad!!! At that point if you were to ask me what I was thinking, it would be unsuitable for young children. Or indeed most adults. The topic of how men and women are different came up again, as well as other topical items such as the fact her mum now knows of my existence. Eep.
The film itself was nothing short of brilliant. I am so glad that I was wrong about Mr Craig’s abilities to play the manliest man on the planet, 007. So were an awful lot of people as it goes, You can’t have a blond Bond. Turns out, you can. He turns out to be a good actor. Played Bond with some serious attitude, throughout he had presence. And well, to be honest for those who haven’t seen the film, please go, then I can go through my favourite scenes as there are quite a few to choose from (the construction site at the beginning is one of them). And hell we even have a bond theme tune that isn’t half bad as well, You know my name, by Chris Cornell. Hmm, does anyone know my name? No not arsewipe. And not that either….cheeky people. The week drifted along to Friday night as it goes, when a long gone collegue from work came down from bonny Scotland to say hello to people and generally it seems get tips on backup solutions, Yes, when rob is drunk, he talks about Backup Solutions and nothing else. Dear god! But then again, he is a genius when it comes the systems, but you do want slightly more than that. It was great to see him in any case, you see he is a great fella to talk to as well so when the opportunity comes to catch up, you tend to take it. The evening had progressed to when It was down to just Rob, Tom, and myself, after convincing from Tom, we travelled to shrewsbury out of the blue and partied on man!
Liquid out did itself again with a wide choice of talent on display which tom was more than happy going after. Rob and I just went for the crap dancing and staring. Of which there was much of both. And hats off to the two dancers who were fantastically, um, flexible.
Saturday was a surprise day, as Mum and dad came to visit, thus f**king up my plans with Natalie that very night. It didn’t get better as I was very late that evening, and Natalie, well, she wasn’t happy any way. You see, my lateness for everything is really going to get me into shit soon, and I need help. Not just talking for ladies here, it’s for work, and everything else I have go places for. If anyone knows of a good time management course, then please let me know, so I can forget about it, then turn up late.
The night got slightly better, as we met Rob and Neville in Weatherspoons, and proceeded to the armoury before calling it an early evening. It was early as a lot of people who were going to turn up, failed to do so, and therefore conversation was a bit shit. Tried my best, but there is only so much you can do. Tis one of the problems that more often of not you get with people from Work. All they can talk about is work. I ask you why? The whole time can not be spent moaning about a project manager from here or there, you expect it to go to other interesting things like why is the world round, or what’s that coming over the hill? Is it a Monster? I always think it’s kind of sad when people resort to only being able to talk about work all the time. The night ended better though, so we go onto Sunday now.
Sunday was spent recuperating, spending a lot of time trying for neither love nor money to get a reasonable design using CSS for the ecommerce website. Well despite spending a lot of time on the CSS stuff, it is not easy and one look in Dreamweaver was completely different in Internet Explorer. It will take a lot of time to get around it, so I may just stay with the mess I have cobbled together and just get the site finished off, and the documentation too.
Well folks, after a rather boring update I must confess, there are some more things afoot, so until next time, cherrio!!
